Corwen appoint former Prestatyn Town boss Ben Heath as manager

Corwen have ended their two-week search for a manager by appointing Ben Heath to the role.

The Ardal North East club parted company with Guy Handscombe a fortnight ago and have looked to a candidate who has most recently been out of work.

Heath was manager of Prestatyn Town but was part of a mass exodus that left the Bastion Gardens club two weeks ago.

He was in charge of Prestatyn for nine months and left them sixth from bottom in the Cymru North before his departure.

The 37-year-old takes charge of a club currently ninth in the third tier, 15 points off of the relegation zone and 12 off of a play-off spot.

A statement from Corwen on their Facebook page read: “Corwen FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Heath as First Team Manager with Lee Pope installed as Assistant Manager.

“Both Ben and Lee have both previously been successfully involved with the club and we are delighted to welcome them back as we look onward and upward with FA Wales and Ardal Northern Leagues.”

Heath rejoins the club in which he previously worked with the senior team as a coach.

He then departed for Penycae where he spent two years, of whom he helped guide to safety in his first season.

Following him to the club is his assistant manager Lee Pope, who had been working as an academy coach at Bala Town.

Pope succeeded Heath as manager at Penycae but later stood down from the role to focus on other commitments.

As well as their new managerial appointment, the club have been boosted by the news that they can return to their home ground.

Corwen had been playing some home games at Bala Town’s Maes Tegid as a result of a dispute over the use of changing rooms at their council-owned ground.

An agreement however has been made and they look set to return once the league resumes after the current suspension by the FAW.
