Rhayader Town make move for Bright, Francis, Steventon and Wozencraft

Rhayader Town have signed four new players as they bid to avoid the drop from the Ardal South East.

Kham Steventon, Taylor Wozencraft, Jack Francis, and Jack Bright have all joined the Red Kites after the January transfer window opened.

The Mid Wales side currently sits joint bottom of the league, only above Abertillery Excelsiors on goal difference and are two points adrift of safety.

Reinforcements have been needed after they were bound by a period in which they couldn’t register players during the season to help them in their predicament.

“I’m really buzzing about bringing in four high-class quality players in Kham Steventon, Taylor Wozencraft, Jack Francis, and Jack Bright so early in the transfer window,” tweeted their director of football David Davies.

“It shows that Rhayader Town have a plan and want to keep pushing.”

Steventon joins after months of going without playing for a club and was keen to get back between the sticks.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in Newtown’s Europa Conference League qualifiers with Dundalk.

He later moved on from the Robins though and went on trial at Merthyr Town, as well as other Welsh clubs.

The goalkeeper instead opted to join Taffs Well but made just two appearances, both wins against Abergavenny Town and Afan Lido, before leaving.

“Buzzing to have signed for @RhayaderTownFC,” said Steventon on social media.

“A local club that has all the credentials for a club on the up. I can’t wait for the next challenge and most importantly playing again.”

Also arriving at Y Weirglodd are Jack Bright and Jack Francis, and Taylor Wozencraft. who all join from the recently folded Knighton Town.

Bright played for the reserves of Rhayader Town but joined Knighton in the summer and went on to make five appearances in the Mid Wales League.

Francis, 21, was also part of the reserves and played the same amount of games as bright.

Forward Taylor Wozencraft is the last of the three from Knighton and joins having been the biggest success there.

He scored ten goals, including a hat-trick in his last game against Montgomery Town back in October, but a hamstring injury had him sidelined but he has since recovered.

He reunites with family member Joseph Wozencraft who was already at the club at the start of the season.

All four players could make their respective debuts on January 15 when they make the travel to Ty-Isaf Park to face relegation rivals Panteg.

Clubs outside the top two tiers of men’s football in Wales have been given the go-ahead to resume playing.

They will however be bound by a maximum capacity of 50 spectators and will have to adhere to Welsh Government rules.
