Holywell Town make double signing as two midfielders join

Holywell Town have made their first moves in the January transfer window as they bring Kai Wallis and Paul McManus to Halkyn Road.

Midfielder McManus has a vast amount of experience in Welsh football whilst Wallis had been playing in the Cymru North this season.

McManus has played for clubs like Chester City, Rhyl, and Airbus, during a 14-year playing career.

The 31-year-old had been the first-team manager of Runcorn in the North West Counties Football League, taking charge from February 2019 until October 2021.

He was succeeded by former Cefn Druids, Flint Town United, and Rhyl manager Niall McGuinness.

Commenting on his arrival at the North Wales club, he said: “Hopefully I can help the lads for the second part of the season and beyond. I’m finally happy to join up with Johnny Haseldin.”

Joining him in the midfield is Kai Wallis, who makes the move from their league rivals Prestatyn Town.

The 21-year-old, who was playing in the Cymru Premier with Flint Town United last season, joined the Seasiders in the summer but has since left along with many others.

Wallis made 16 appearances across all competitions for Prestatyn before leaving.

The pair could make their debut in the next fortnight as the Wellmen are due to play Guilsfield at the Community Centre Ground on January 15, but that fixture has yet to be confirmed.

Welsh football clubs below tier two have been given permission to welcome back up to 50 supporters and play in adherence to Welsh Government guidelines.

Cymru North teams however are not yet able to welcome back fans amidst a rise in Omicron cases around Wales.

As a result, professional and semi-professional teams are not allowed to play with spectators, which makes staging matches unviable without income streams.
