Llantwit Major kept their promotion plans on track with a strong second-half performance to see off Llanelli Town at Prince Moomin’s Palace.
After an even first half, Llantwit took control and scored three in the second half as they swept past Llanelli.
Conner Goldsworthy got the first just after the break as the host came out strong from the kickoff. Josh Jones added a second after 64 minutes with his sixth league goal of the season. Cullen Kinsella adds a third two minutes later.
After an even first half where both side had periods of pressure, Llantwit took control in the second. An early second half goal set the tone and was followed by two quick goals which killed off any chance of a comeback from the visitors.
The win puts Llantwit level on points with leaders Pontypridd Town, who drew with third placed Briton Ferry. Llantwit and Pontypridd will met next month in what could be a title showdown. The defeat means Llanelli drop one place into seventh.
An early corner from the hosts forced Exauce Dimonekene to punch away. The ball dropped to Cullen Kinsella who fired a shot wide.
Conner Goldsworthy, who was lively all game, found Rob Jones with a good ball into the box. Rob Jones showed good control to bring the ball down and hit a shot on the turn but it was blocked.
Jones’s shot had earned his side a corner. The corner was sent into the box where Kris Evans met it in the air heading just over the bar.
Llantwit had a shout for a penalty after Dafydd Owen was brought down in the box. Cutting in from out wide Owen went past one and then went down in the box but the referee waved away the protests of the home side.
After Llantwit’s early pressure Llanelli came back into the game. Making a quick counter attack Callum Bateman tried a shot from distance but hit it wide.
Llanelli had the best chance of the half to take the lead. Callum Bateman’s corner to the back post found Louis Gerrard who headed at goal. Gerrard would have scored but for a fingertip stop from Jack Lansdown to put the ball over the bar.
Into the second half and llantwit again started the better. Winning an early corner the ball went into the box and Llanelli failed to clear. Thomas Walters set up Goldsworthy who fires a low drive into the corner.
Josh Jones had a chance to make it 2-0, cutting inside from the right he fired a shot just wide of the goal.
Josh Jones soon did make it two as Thomas Walters played him in behind the defence. Jones rolled the ball past the keeper to the joy of the home crowd.
Llantwit had the game all but won two minutes later as they went three up. The ball fell to Cullen Kinsella on the edge of the box. With a quick shift of the ball he fired a low shot into the bottom corner leaving Dimonekene rooted to the spot.
Llanelli did try to push forward in search of a goal but met a yellow wall as the Llantwit defensive stood firm.
