Cardiff Met Women came out 2-0 winners against Aberystwyth Town at Cyncoed Campus in the Adran Premier this Sunday afternoon.
The game started with a high tempo as both sides controlled the ball as the keepers were not troubled in the early stages.
Elianna Chavez has been in form for the archers as she caused havoc down the left flank as she spun an Aberystwyth defender as her effort went just wide.
The game started to heat up when Carys Davies took a free kick in which her right-footed effort was punched away by Annabel Sweeney.
Moments later, Sweeney needed to produce another save as Emily Thomas had a close-range header denied by the archers’ number one.
Shannon Evans nearly gave met the lead in the latter stages of the first half as Evans had her shot saved from a tight angle.
As Ashman saved Evans’ shot Laura May-Walkley had a rebound effort saved by Ffion Ashman who kept her side in it as the first half remained goalless.
Aberystwyth started the second half quickly as Pusey was through on goal with only Sweeney to beat, but a last-ditch interception from Stephanie Turner denied the forward.
From being a hero at one end she nearly turned into a hero in the attacking end. Sophie Hancocks hit the ball into the box as Turner was unmarked as her header went over the bar.
Chavez was causing danger all game as she twisted and turned her way into the box as she had her curling effort blocked.
Met continued the pressure as Laura May Walkley went to the ground in the penalty area as several met players appealed with the referee continuing the game.
Moments later, Met could have taken the lead as Elianna Chavez had her snapshot effort hit the post from close range.
The away side created a chance of their own as Pusey struck a volley from 25 yards out as Sweeney collected it with ease.
The end-to-end action didn’t stop as Shannon Evans had an effort cleared off the line following an Amy Long delivery into the penalty area.
A goal soon came as Emily Allen was one on one with Ffion Ashman as the keeper saved it as it went to the feet of Lauren Hutton-Townsend who chipped the keeper.
Hutton Townsend also scored on Thursday night as she scored in back-to-back games against the Seasiders.
A response was needed from the away side but that was not to be as Ellie Preece was brought down in the last few minutes of the match.
Emily Richards was over the free-kick as she scooped it over the wall and into the bottom left corner to make sure the archers were leaving Cyncoed Campus with all 3 points.
