Barry Town United 0-4 Port Talbot Town: Steelwomen smash Barry to knock them to bottom

Barry Town United drop to the bottom of the Adran Premier after Port Talbot Town comfortably beat them 4-0 at Jenner Park Stadium.

Jess Hammett opened the scoring for the Steelwomen in the first half before Cerys Bevan, Courteney Thomas and Terri Beddows inflicted further damage on the Linnets.

Barry will now enter the final day of the season bottom, where they will play away at Pontypridd Town whilst rivals Port Talbot and The New Saints will play at Park Hall on April 17.

Port Talbot came out the blocks quickly and they had the games first chance. Vicky Beddows trying form distance but hitting her shot straight at Erin Brennen in the Barry goal.

In a fast paced opening few minutes Coryn Sexton hit an effort just wide of the Barry goal. Soon after Barry made a quick break sending Taite Trivett one on one with Port Talbot keeper Emily Roberts. Roberts stood strong to block the ball and deny Trivett a chance.

Port Talbot began to push Barry back as they looked to get the opening goal. Lauren Amor hit the post with her in swinging corner kick and Sexton saw her effort saved by Brennen.

The Steelwomen were in the ascendency and a won a free kick in a good area. Lauren Amor sent the ball curling towards the top corner but Brennen got across her goal to punch away.

The goal did come as Courteney Thomas put the ball in the box behind the Barry defence. Jess Hammett was hand at the back post to poke the ball home.

Hammett tries for a second goal from the edge of the box but her effort was saved by Brennen.

Barry tried to get back into the game before the break with Mackenzie Olden seeing her shot blocked by Terri Beddows and Manon Pearce’s header easily saved by Roberts.

Half Time: Barry Town 0:1 Port Talbot

Barry won free kick int the Port Talbot half after Manon Pearce was fouled. Barry captain Lauren Harris took kick and sent the ball into the box but Chelsey Harris headed away. The ball came out to Olden but her shot was high and over the bar.

Port Talbot soon got their second as Sexton sent the ball into the box for Cerys Bevan. Bevan calmly put the ball past Brennen for 2-0.

Barry tried to work their way back into the game but lacked quality in the final third. Holly Jenkins cross was taken by Roberts and Harris hit the wall from a free kick.

Barry kept going and worked the ball across the pitch to the right for Grace O’Reilly. O’Reilly hit a shot but it was wide of the target.

With the clock running down Port Talbot soon made sure of the win with their third goal. Working the ball into the box for Courteney Thomas to stroke the ball past Brennen.

In the last few minutes Terri Beddows rounded off a good day for Port Talbot with a wonder goal. Beddows lobbing the keeper from distance to wrap up a big win.
