Barry made it back to back wins as they beat local rivals Cardiff Met 1-0 at Jenner Park in the JD Cymru Premier.

A Kane McLaggon penalty after 17 minutes was enough for the win despite heavy pressure from Met during the second half.

Cardiff Met remain top of the play off conference despite the defeat three points ahead of Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth.

Barry move on to 30 points level with Connah’s Quay who they play on Saturday. They are now just two points behind Aberystwyth and Haverfordwest as the relegation battle intensifies.

The first half saw a physical game between the sides as both looked to gain control.

Met had the games first chance as Harry Owen’s ball found the run of Emlyn Lewis. Lewis however put his effort wide.

In a back and fourth opening to the game Marcus Day hit a shot from the corner of the box. His shot was too direct at the Alex Land who made a comfortable save.

Soon the game had its first big moment as Kane McLaggon received the ball in the box. Looking to turn away from the defender he was brought down. The ref has no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

McLaggon took the spot kick and hit it low to right corner, Alex Land went the right way but couldn’t reach the ball and Barry took the lead.

Harry Owen made a driving run from half way towards the box to try and make a chance for Met. Rhys Abbruzzese did well to get in front of Owen and stop his run.

Barry won a free kick on the edge of the box when Emlyn Lewis fouled McLaggon. Marcus Day cleverly bent the ball around the wall but Alex Land had it covered.

Half Time: Barry Town 1-0 Cardiff Met

Met began the second half strong and tried to get themselves back into the game. Making use of long throws into the box they were unable to create clear chances as Luke Cooper was in fine form heading away the danger.

Met dominated the play in the second half and pinned Barry into their own half. Matthew Chubb saw his long range effort blocked by Cooper and Sam Jones saw his effort blocked.

Adam Roscrow received the ball in the box with his back to goal. He tried to hit a shot on the turn but fired over the bar.

Chris Craven made his way down the left and put a good pass into the box for Eliot Evans. Evans hit it first time but put it agonisingly just wide.

Craven tried a curling effort from the edge of the box but it was too high. Met were in control but weren’t troubling Mike Lewis.

Eliot Evans did make Lewis make a save with his low shot that was straight at the Barry keeper.

As the game went into added time Met were throwing everything at Barry. The host’s throwing bodies in front of the ball and just clearly any where they could.

A late Met charge saw Lewis forced to punch away Chubb’s cross and soon after dive across goal to save from Sam Jones’ header.
