Airbus UK Broughton will be playing Cymru Premier football next season after they secured the FAW’s Tier One Licence.
The Wingmakers secured the Cymru North title after beating their title rivals Llandudno 1-0 at The Airfield last week.
And after the Football Association of Wales’ licencing committee met today, they were happy with the application of Airbus, granting them the compulsory qualification to compete in the top tier.
The Flintshire side were relegated in 2020 after finishing in the bottom two on the points-per-game basis.
They were unable to immediately respond after the 2020/21 season was curtailed for second-tier sides, but in their first full season, they have ended up returning to Wales’ top flight.
The only gloss of Airbus’ promotion is that they may be without influential striker Adam Davies, who suffered a traverse displaced fracture to his tibula and fibula, though his operation was successful.
The 25-year-old found the net 29 times in 25 matches, putting himself in a good position to claim the Golden Boot award.
But with the title now wrapped up, the former Aberystwyth Town striker will now step up his recovery and hopefully take part when Airbus return to the Cymru Premier in July.
“We’ve been great all season, but absolutely gutted for Adam, so it’s a bit of a sour note really as well,” said manager Stephen O’Shaughnessy in the aftermath of the win over Llandudno.
“I think everyone’s gutted, even the Llandudno lads looked upset as well, so full credit to them.
“We took our chance in the end and luckily got the points and won it.”
