Abergavenny Women’s promotion to Adran Premier rubber-stamped by FAW

Abergavenny Women’s promotion to the Adran Premier has been confirmed after they were granted a Tier One Licence by the Football Association of Wales. 

The Pennies have bounced back from their demotion from the Welsh top flight last year by winning the Adran North and securing the necessary qualification to play in a higher division.

Craig Morgan-Hill’s side did not require a play-off against the Adran North winners after Llandudno Ladies opted not to apply.

The Monmouthshire club won 12 of their 14 league fixtures, scoring an impressive 88 goals whilst only conceding eight.

In a short post made by the football club, they tweeted: “We are over the moon to be granted our Tier 1 licence. We are back!”

Whilst there is joy for Abergavenny, there is uncertainty about their prospective opponents next season after a raft of rejections.

Half of the Adran Premier is at risk of a demotion after having their Football Association of Wales’ Licensing applications rejected.

Cardiff City, Pontypridd Town, Swansea City, and The New Saints, who make up an eight-team division, have all had their applications turned down.

All four clubs have ten days to decide whether to submit an appeal which will then be discussed by the FAW’s Appeal Body later this month. 

“We are confident that upon appeal, we will be awarded the licence,” said Jacob Williams, the club secretary of The New Saints.

Cardiff Met, who still have an outside chance of winning the league, have obtained the UEFA Licence, which would allow them to play in the Champions League.

Should they defeat Cardiff City on Saturday, they would set up a winner-takes-all match with Swansea City on Easter Sunday.

Reigning champions Swansea though have not secured either the UEFA Licence or the Tier 1 Licence and are in danger of losing their ever-present top-flight status.
