Penlan Club crowned inaugural winners of West Wales Premier League

Penlan Club have been crowned the inaugural winners of the West Wales Premier League after their 2-0 win over Giants Grave.

Goals from Luke Edwards and Darren Rowe at Parc Newydd helped the Swansea-based side to title success, becoming the inaugural winners of the division.

In their 17 league matches, they won 15 of their matches and drew the other two, scoring 71 goals, as well as conceding just 17 goals.

They have remaining league fixtures against CKSV, Evans & Williams and Dafen Welfare, as well as a League Cup final to look forward to against Mumbles Rangers on April 16.

“Some performance lads fair play,” tweeted first-team manager Kevin Crabb in the immediate aftermath of the achievement of his side.

“To have so many players missing and to go to such a difficult place and produce that performance is worthy of winning the league, well done to everyone involved

“I couldn’t be more prouder of my group of players at Penlan Club, to win this league is an achievement in itself but to win it undefeated is something else.”

The West Wales Premier League was formed in July 2020 and consists of teams from Carmarthenshire, Neath, and Swansea, sitting at the fourth tier of Welsh football.

They must now wait to see if they are successful in their application for a Tier Three Licence, which would allow them to take their place in the Ardal Leagues next season.

A decision on that will be due in mid-May with their Mynydd Newydd Playing Fields Grounds due to be assessed soon.
