Mumbles Rangers 2-2 Penlan Club: Penlan salvage point against ten-men Mumbles

Penlan came from two goals down to earn a point against ten men Mumbles Rangers in the West Wales Premier League at Underhill Park.

Liam Otten and Nathan Lewis scored for the visitors to earn a point for the away side aftergoals from Matthew Thomas and Elliot Smith put Mumbles ahead.

Penlan dominated the early stages of the game and the first chance came from a long throw in for the away side, Liam Otten delivered it and Rangers didn’t know how to handle it but they cleared the ball but Penlan kept pilling in the pressure.

Penlan continued to dominate the game, they earned themselves a corner which was cleared by Mumbles but it fell to new signing Steven Hughes but his shot was deflected and it went wide of the post.
Luke Dalling was a major threat for the away side and he continued to get the better of the Mumbles full back and he delivered a lovely cross but the header from Nathan Lewis was easily saved by Callum Andrews.

The turning point in the game then occurred. Penlan played some nice football in the middle of the pitch and Josh Doyle came in for a tackle but he caught the Penlan player and it was a dangerous tackle and gave the referee no choice but to show the red card and gave the home side a huge mountain to climb.

But then the home side without they’re striker upfront now started to dominated the game and they created a chance on the right-hand side. Matthew Thomas jinks in between the Penlan defenders, he somehow managed to keep the ball, he got an eye in on goal but his shot went wide of the post.

Penlan then tried to calm the game down, Luke Edwards had the ball in his own half, he then delivered a fantastic cross ball to Luke Dalling, he then cut in and delivered a outstanding cross but Nathan Lewis couldn’t get on the end of it and it was easily gathered by the goal keeper.

Five minutes before half time, the deadlock was broken. A lovely ball to Matthew Thomas and he kept the ball very well and he bombed on and cruised past Ben Simons, he then shot and it managed to get past the Penlan keeper and the referee deemed the ball had crossed the line and gave the home side the lead with ten men.

Just after the goal, Penlan managed to grab a hold back in the game. Luke Edwards picked the ball up on the edge of the area and his strike is struck perfect but it was hit too well and his shot comes off the cross bar.

The away side came out all guns blazing in the second half, and they created the first chance with a lovely cross but the header from Nathan Lewis went wide of the post.

In the 65th minute the home side then won themselves a penalty. Elliot Smith neatly slotted it away to the left and gave Mumbles a 2-0 lead.

The game then turned on the 70th minute, lovely play from the away side and a lovely pass from Luke Edwards to Liam Otten and the defender slots it past the keeper and bought Penlan back into the game.

One minute later, Luke Dalling picked the ball up, he then delivered a lovely ball and Nathan Lewis was free inside the box and headed it neatly into the net and bought the away side level.

In the final ten minutes both sides had half chances but they cancelled each other out. Mumbles kept on going to the corner flag and was quite happy to take the draw.

Both sides will have mixed feelings about the draw but a very entertaining affair at Underhill Park on a lovely day in the Mumbles.
