Llantwit Major crowned 2021/22 Cymru South champions

Llantwit Major have won the JD Cymru South for the first time in their history after defeating Undy Athletic at The Causeway.

Second-half goals from Ben Cripps, Rob Jones, and captain Cullen Kinsella, against the already relegated Undy gave the Major their first-ever success at this level.

The side from Glamorgan need a win or for Pontypridd Town to drop points to be crowned just the second winners of the Cymru South and did just that by winning 3-1. Pontypridd Town did win 2-1 against Cambrian but their efforts were not enough.

With just one game remaining in their season against Cwmbran Celtic, Major won 23 out of their 29 fixtures, drawing two and losing just our times. They scored 68 goals and conceded 30.

Major had finished seventh and 11th in the previous two seasons under the stewardship of Darren Robinson and then Karl Lewis again.

Major and their title rivals Pontypridd Town will now await the outcome of their appeals after being rejected for a Tier One Licence by the Football Association of Wales. A decision is due to be announced on Thursday by the FAW.

Should neither of them be successful then the team that finishes 11th in the Cymru Premier would receive a reprieve.
