AFC Porth 1-2 Cwmamman United – Cwmamman move five points clear of relegation zone

Cwmamman United took a big step towards securing their spot in the Ardal South West with a 2-1 at AFC Porth.

In a tight game it was the visitors who handled the pressure to take the three points meaning AFC Porth will face relegation, based on their league finish and not licensing.

Llion Jones got a very early goal for Cwmamman within the first 30 seconds of the game. Patrick Rysgaard levelled for Porth after seven minutes in a frantic opening to the game. The pressure could be felt as the game got tighter but Ryan Thomas was able to get a second for Cwmamman to seal a big win.

Cwmamman move up to 12th place and now have a five point lead over Ton Pentre. Porth remain bottom on 12 points and now can’t catch either AFC Llwydcoed or Cwmamman.


Cwmamman came out the blocks quickly and worked the ball towards the Porth box. Ryan Hurlow chipping the ball to Llion Jones who hammered it in to give his side the lead. Jones only starting as one of the Cwmamman players arrived late.

Hurlow was a threat out wide for Cwmamman with his tricky runs into the box. His early effort going over the bar.

Porth came back and Shaun Davies saw his shot on the edge of the box go wide.

The host’s soon won a free kick and sent a good ball into the Cwmamman box. Cwmamman struggled to deal with it and the ball fall to Patrick Rysgaard who smashed into the net.

The early moments were frantic and Llion Jones played a though ball that found Ryan Hurlow clear on goal. Hurlow hit a low shot that was well saved by Andrew Hargreaves.

Soon after Jordan Simpson tried a curling effort from distance. Hargreaves diving across his goal to push the shot away.

The game began to settle with both teams battling to gain control. Shaun Davies saw a header go just over for Porth and Dafydd Thomas making a good run but not able to convert from a tight angle.

The second half began with Porth looking to open the scoring. Rysgaard’s long ball looking for Shaun Davies was taken by Cwmamman keeper Kai James.

Cwmamman had a chance when the ball was sent into the box finding Geraint Rees. Rees though put his header wide.

Callum Richards cut inside for Porth and tried s shot from distance but it was straight at Kai James.

Porth were pushing forward but Cwmamman were looking dangerous on the break. A ball over the top found Hurlow but his shot was high and over the bar.

Cwmamman got the winning goal in the 79th minute. From a corner sent into the near post Porth keeper Hargreaves couldn’t keep hold of the ball. The ball fell to Ryan Thomas who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Cwmamman went into the last ten minutes looking to kill the game off. Porth were unable to create a clear opening to level the game.
