Pontyclun 1-3 Ynyshir Albions: Buns take second place with comeback win

Ynyshir Albions secured second place in the Ardal South West after coming from behind to beat Pontyclun 3-1.

The Buns went into the game in third with Pontyclun still having a chance at winning the title. With this result Pontardawe were crowned champions and Ynyshir take second spot.

Chris Bell gave Pontyclun the lead after 18 minutes but Ynyshir responded quickly, Joseph Eason equalising two minutes after. The side went into the break all square and played a tense second half.

With tensions rising Pontyclun coach Eliot Davey was shown a yellow card for appearing to stamp on a Ynyshir sub. Davey protested with the referee and was shown a second and sent off. Pontyclun struggled to create chances and Ynyshir took the lead after 80 minutes though Andre Griffiths. Liam Eason made sure of the win with Ynyshir’s third in added time.

Ynyshir leapfrog Pontyclun in the final table after the win to take second spot in the table.


In a tight first half chances didn’t come easy for either side but Ynyshir had the first chance as Joseph Eason shot over.

Pontyclun took the lead thanks to Chris Bell. From a Ben Parry corner Bell came flying in to head in at the far post.

The lead wasn’t to last long as Ynyshir soon hit back. Joseph Eason firing in a low shot from the edge of the box.

Mark Crutch headed over from a free kick sent into the box as Ynyshir looked to take a lead into the break.

Pontyclun were dealt a blow min way though the half as top scorer Joel Woodington had to leave the game after pulling up.

The second half saw Ynyshir have the first chance of the half a though ball for Liam Eason well taken by Pontyclun keeper Sam L’Homme.

Ynyshir turned up the pressure and Kailum Williams saw his shot go over the bar. Soon after Corey Morgan hooked the ball over the bar after a good ball over the top to find him in the box.

Ynyshir claim a penalty when Leon Anstee went down in the box but their claims were waved away.

With time running down Ynshir took the lead. Liam Eason with a perfectly weighted pass into Andre Griffiths. Griffiths with a little space and time fired a long range shot into the top corner.

Pontyclun had the chance to level but Chris Bell headed wide from a cross from the right.

Into added time and Ynyshir made sure of the win. Liam Thomas passing to Liam Eason who put a low shot into the corner past L’Homme.
