Bala Town attacker Will Evans is set for a move to the English Football League with League Two outfit Newport County in pole position to sign him.
The 24-year-old will move to Rodney Parade after spending seven seasons in the Cymru Premier with the Lakesiders, who he helped secure a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League this term.
Newport County’s sporting director Darren Kelly was one of just many scouts at Wales C’s 4-0 win over England C and caught a glimpse of Evans’ talents, impressed by what he had seen.
The Bala Town attacker netted a brace in a man-of-the-match performance against the likes of goalkeeper Scott Loach and Billy Waters, who had extensive careers in the professional game.
For back-to-back campaigns, Evans has repeated the feat of getting 12 goals and five assists, and in 177 appearances he has got 46 goals and 18 assists during his time spent in the top flight of Welsh football.
During his lengthy spell in the Cymru Premier, he was part of the Archers side that won the Nathaniel MG Cup and also qualified for the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League.
In 2020, he moved to Maes Tegid, getting the chance to play in both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League, featuring in games against Valletta, Standard Liege, and Larne.
Evans follows in the footsteps of Priestley Farquharson, James Waite, and Sam Bowen, who all enjoyed time in the Welsh top flight before penning deals with the Exiles.
Bowen, who was on a three-month loan at Barry Town United in 2020 recently completed a permanent move to Rodney Parade after leaving Cardiff City.
