Llantwit Major have begun their first steps into rebuilding their squad for next season by signing five new players.

First-team manager Karl Lewis departed the club in April and was followed out of Windmill Lane to Briton Ferry Llansawel by Cullen Kinsella, Thomas Walters, Connor Goldsworthy, Dafydd Owen, Kris Evans, and Nathan Jones.

Lewis was replaced by Ely Rangers boss Stevie McCarthy-Campbell and now the young manager is hoping to fill in the gaps by recruiting his own players with five brought in over the last week.

Left-back Luke Davidson was the first player to make the move, joining from Cymru South rivals Taffs Well.

The 23-year-old played a total of 25 times for the Wellmen last season and helped Craig Sampson’s side reach the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup.

In a double swoop from his former side Ely, he snapped up centre-midfielder George Shewring and centre-back Nathan Evans.

Shrewing 21, played seven games for the Wenvoe-based club and got two assists. He was also part of Barry Town United’s Development team back in the 2019/20 season.

Evans 22, played 27 times in four competitions under McCarthy-Campbell last season as they finished third in the division.

Tyler Jackson who was initially meant to have joined in January has also completed a move from Bristol Academia.

Continuing to recruit from the lower leagues, their business for this period was finished off with the signing of Harri Edwards from Caerau Ely.

The 21-year-old was prolific from midfield and scored 15 goals for the Young Guns whilst getting an assist.

Commenting on his additions, McCarthy-Campbell said: “It has been a crazy couple of weeks but glad to get these five over the line and looking forward to working with them alongside the current squad we have. Welcome aboard.”

Major though have had to concede losing another player however with mercurial winger Josh Jones making the move to the Cymru Premier with Penybont.

The 23-year-old got 12 goal contributions across 32 games in all competitions last season and was named in the official Cymru South Team of the Season. He was also called up to represent the league in the Regions Cup in mid-May.
