Llantwit Major 0-2 Carmarthen Town: Daley and Surman down Cymru South champions

A strong second half showing from Mark Aizlewood’s Carmarthen Town sealed them a spot in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

A new look llantwit Major side crash out after ending the game with ten players.

After a close fought and goal less first half, which saw both sides have chances to take the lead. It was the away side who came out stronger in the second half. Noah Daley got the opening goal after 53 minutes and ten minutes later Lee Surman mage it two. Matthew Kimmins, who was cautioned just before the break earned a second yellow on 72 minutes leaving Llantwit with ten players.

Carmarthen Town will now look forward to the second round of the MG Cup but Llantwit go out at the first round.


New signing Tyler Jackson had Llantwit’s first chance after he made a driving run into the box from the left side. Approaching the goal he fired a low shot across goal that went just past the post.

Samuel Parsons went close for Carmarthen striking the ball from outside the area as Llantwit tried to clear a corner. Parson struck the ball first time and was unlucky to see his effort go just wide.

Carmarthen kept the pressure on the host’s and Adam John sent a header straight at Llantwit keeper Rhys Jones,

Noah Daley went closest to scoring in the first half when his close range effort hit the post. Meting the ball at the far side after a good ball across his powerful close range effort could only find the wood work.

Rhys Jones had to be sharp to save Lewis Rocke’s header as the half was coming to a close. Rocke heading at goal after a corner, which was looking to go in before Jones tipped over the bar..

Llantwit had a good chance just before the break. Matthew Kimmins’ ball into Rob Jones saw him free inside the box. Rob Jones was unable to get a good connection on the ball and Ioan Knott had an easy save.

Half Time: Llantwit 0-0 Carmarthen

Carmarthen came out strong and won some early corners as they put llantwit under pressure.

Eight minutes into the half and their pressure told. Jac Walters broke away down the right and sent a low ball across the Llantwit box. The ball went over to the back post where Noah Daley was waiting to tap in.

Carmarthen kept the game in Llantwit’s half with Lee Surman forcing a save from Rhys Jones. Surman heading at goal from Trystan Jones’ corner,

On 63 minutes the same combination gave Carmarthen their second. Trystan Jones with the corner again met by Surman but this time burring his header into the back of the net.

Llantwit tried to mount a fight back back met a solid backline from Carmarthen.

Matthew Kimmins made their task harder after a second yellow card for rash tackle. After mis-timing a shot Kimmins dived in to try regain the ball but caught the player and was issued a red card.

The ten players did try to find a way back into the game but couldn’t break down a strong showing from Carmarthen.
