Conwy Borough 1-2 Llandudno – Seasiders extend unbeaten run to four

LLANDUDNO, WALES - 29th JULY 2022 - Shaun Cavangh and Luke Smith celebrate Llandudno's second goal during CPD Llandudno vs CPD Bae Colwyn in the JD Cymru North at The OPS Wind Arena, Llandudno

Llandudno continued their unbeaten start to the season as they claimed a 2-1 win over Conwy Borough at Y Morfa.

Goals from Shaun Cavanagh and Sam Jones were enough to secure all three points despite a late Conwy fightback.

Sean Eardley’s side move up to second place in the JD Cymru North whilst Borough remain in 14th.

The hosts started the match well, keeping the majority of possession in the first 10 minutes, but struggled to create chances.

Shaun Cavanagh had the first clear cut opportunity of the afternoon, as he was slipped in behind the defence, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Ashley Lavender got down well to deny the 24-year-old.

Chances kept coming for Cavanagh, when in the 29th minute Sam Jones’ squared ball found the feet of Cavanagh, but a snatched effort so the ball go over the bar.

It was only four minutes later that the forward would open the scoring, stealing the ball off the Conwy defence, before slotting home into the bottom right corner with a fine finish.

With just five minutes left of the half, Cavanagh should’ve doubled the Seasiders’ lead. The forward got in behind the defence once again, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but looked to have kicked the floor, allowing the hosts to clear the danger.

Danny Brookwell had the first opportunity of the second half, as he skipped past the Conwy defence, as well as Lavender in goal. With just an open goal ahead of him, substitute James Bell denied Brookwell with an unbelievable last ditch tackle.

17-year-old Ben Farrar made his first appearance of the campaign for the hosts, replacing injured Lavender in goal with 20 minutes to go.

Llandudno doubled their lead on 82 minutes, as Sam Jones netted his second of the term. The 22-year-old netted with a rocket effort, striking the inside of the right post and in, leaving young Farrar no chance.

Deep into added time, Conwy looked to mount a comeback, but John Littlemore’s 90+13′ goal wasn’t enough as the referee brought the game to an end.
