Ynyshir Albions 0-2 Pontardawe Town: Pontardawe take three points from Buns

Pontardawe picked up their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Ynyshir Oval over Ynyshir Albions. Ynyshir are still waiting for their first Cymru South win.

Pontardawe took the lead on 19 minutes thanks to Morgan Weaver. They doubled their lead on 43 minutes thanks to Ryan Kostromin. Despite pressure for the Buns second half Pontardawe held on to take the win.

Pontardawe move up to 6th place in the JD Cymru South table with Ynyshir dropping down to 14th.


Pontardawe started the first half brightly and Tim Georgievsky hit an early shot from distance over the bar.

Matt Humphreys had The Buns first chance as he sent Zach Phillpotts cross at goal. Steven Reeve in goal for Pontardawe making the save.

Pontardawe were looking the more likely to make the break though and did from Ryan Kostromin’s corner. Swinging the ball in to the far post his corner found the head of Morgan Weaver who headed into the top corner.

After going behind Ynyshir came back into the game and almost levelled thanks to Mark Crutch. A long cross field ball found Crutch but his shot was saved by Weaver.

Drew Caple was played in on goal but Reeve was out quick and saved his effort.

A good ball over the Ynyshir defence found Tim Georgievsky in space. He took a shot but it was a rushed effort and went over the bar.

Jake Thomas committed a foul just outside his teams box just before the break. Ryan Kostromin blasted a shot at the wall and it went off the wall and in wrong-footing Luke Evans.

Half Time: Ynyshir 0-2 Pontardawe

Ynyshir started the second half the better and pushed their visitors back. Leon Anstee with a long range effort that went wide.

Jacob Matthews had the chance to capitalise on a poor kick out from Reeve. Taking the ball in the middle the goal was empty but the Pontardawe defenders managed to do enough to stop him.

Ynyshir kept coming and Dre Griffiths picked up the ball in the box. Making a quick turn and shooting he forced a fine save from Reeve.

With time running out Ynyshir had a free kick in sight of the goal. Zach Philpott went for goal but put it high and over the bar.

Despite good pressure in the second half Ynyshir were unable to find a goal and Pontardawe take a big win.
