Briton Ferry Llansawel 1-1 Llanelli Town: Ten-men Ferry maintain unbeaten run

Cymru South Leaders Briton Ferry earned a point against Llanelli Town despite playing much of the game with ten players.

Llanelli were on top for long periods and after going behind found a way back into the game.

Tom Walters gave the host the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half. This was after Declan Evans was sent off mid way though the half. Tim Parker got an equaliser for Llanelli in the second half but despite their dominance, they were unable to find a winning goal.

Briton Ferry remain top on goal difference ahead of Taffs Well. Llanelli remain fourth but could drop down the table if results go against them.


The game began at a fast pace and both side committing to hard challenges in a feisty local derby. Five players were issued yellow cards as fouls were aplenty.

The best chance of the early exchanges went to the visitors. A mis placed pass from the back gave the ball to Thomas Hillman who from the edge of the box sent a shot just wide of the goal.

Neither side were creating many clear chances but the game was competitive and kept the ref busy. As Llanelli looked to break Declan Evans committed a rash two footed challenge which earned him a straight red card. Briton Ferry would have to for an hour with ten players.

Tom Walters won the ball in the Llanelli half and made a run towards goal. Finding space for a shot he forced a save from Llanelli keeper Scott Coughlin.

Llanelli captain Louis Gerrard tried a shot from the edge of the box but it was too close to Rhys Wilson who made an easy save.

As the half went into added time Briton Ferry won a free kick 30 yards out. Tom Walters stood over the ball and curled a stunning strike into the top corner sending the host into the break ahead.

With a lead to hold on to Briton Ferry set two banks of four and set Llanelli the task of breaking them down.

Llanelli tried serval high balls into the box but more often than not Kris Evans was able to head the ball away. Louis Gerrard tried to curl the ball in from outside the box but he put his effort over the bar.

Thomas Hillman hung a teasing cross to the far post which found Tim Parker. Parker headed into the top corner but Rhys Wilson leaped across to save.

A handball gave Llanelli a free kick just outside the Briton Ferry box. Rhys Bevan went for goal but his effort hit the wall.

As the time was running down Llanelli became more urgent as they pushed forward. Hillman with a good run into the box giving himself space to shoot. Wilson made a fine save diving down to his right but the went up and off the bar falling at the feet of Parker who had a tap-in to level the game.

Llanelli then went in search of a winner with Hillman sending an effort onto the top of the bar and Keane Watts going close with a header.

Briton Ferry held on and earned a decent point after playing a player down for so long. Llanelli will be disappointed they couldn’t find the second goal after dominating much of the game.
