Pontypridd United take on Aberystwyth Town in an Adran Premier clash at the USW Sports Park on Sunday afternoon.

As the race to clinch fourth spot hots up, a win for either side here will set them up perfectly to achieve their pre-season aspirations.

Ponty currently occupy that fourth spot and lead their rivals by a single point, and the Dragons would love to strengthen their grip on Sunday. They have drawn their past two matches. The first of those was a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City, as they became the only team to take points of the Bluebirds this season so far. Their last league game was a 2-2 draw away to TNS. Goals from Alison Witts and Jasmine Turner were cancelled out by an Emily Ridge goal and a late equaliser from Isobel Redding.

Aberystwyth have had a large upturn in form lately. Having only won one of their opening seven matches, they have now won their last two, a run which has seen them go straight into contention for that fourth spot. They have also discovered their goal scoring form, scoring nine in their last two. Their last game in the Adran Prem was a 5-1 win at home against Barry. Goals from Rebecca Mathias, Emily Thomas, Shauna Chambers, Ffiona Evans and Amy Jenkins sealed a great win for Gavin Allen’s side.

Meetings between these two sides are often feisty and they leave everything out on the pitch. Their last meeting ended in a 2-1 win for Ponty. Goals from Liv Francis and Anais Trinci sealed the win, with Tania Wylde’s penalty proving to only be a consolation goal. I’m sure we’re in for another cracker on Sunday.
