As-it-happened: Pontypridd United 0-4 The New Saints

Pontypridd United take on The New Saints in the Adran Premier on Sunday afternoon at the USW Sports Park.

As the season resumes after the brief Christmas break, attention turns to the looming end of phase one of the Adran Prem, and this fixture will be pivotal in who makes the top four.

Ponty are in pole position to clinch a spot in the Championship Group. They sit in fourth currently, three points ahead of their opponents on Sunday. With a win here and a kinder set of fixtures, they could have a firm grip on the final spot if they win on Sunday. They come into this game in a good run of form, picking up eight points in their last five games. Their last game however was a narrow defeat to Cardiff Met, Erin Murray with the only goal of the game.

If the Dragons aren’t on their game, TNS will happily play the role of party poopers. A win for them will make it a neck and neck race for that fourth spot. Greg Draper’s side come into this in a slightly poorer run of form than their opponents, picking up five points from a possible 15. Their last outing was an exhilarating 3-3 draw away to Aberystwyth. The Saints were 3-0 up, before allowing the Seasiders back into the game.

The last meeting between these sides took play in the middle of November, and it was a classic 2-2 draw. An Emily Ridge opener was cancelled out by goals from Alison Witts and Jasmine Turner, before Isobel Redding grabbed the equaliser with two minutes remaining. With neither team having played since the start of December, they’ll be hoping they can hit the ground running again on Sunday.
