Deadline Day RECAP: January transfer window shuts for Welsh clubs today

Deadline Day is here in Wales as the January transfer window shuts at 11:00 pm tonight for clubs for various leagues.

Clubs in the top three tiers of men’s football in Wales and the Adran Premier have until this evening to conclude their transfer business, with a potential mad rush, despite having 30 days available to them. It is the first time that the Women’s top flight have been faced with a transfer window, and clubs have been busy.

For Cymru Premier clubs, their fate has been sealed for the last few weeks with the fixtures for Phase Two already confirmed. There are games tonight however with Haverfordwest County hosting Connah’s Quay and The New Saints facing Bala Town. It could affect all four clubs in making any signings with their attention elsewhere. On the penultimate day of the window, it was announced that Penybont would be selling Tom Tweedy to EFL Championship side Burnley for an expected five-figure fee.

Cymru South outfit Goytre United have been the busiest of the clubs with 13 signings made by Karl Lewis. He has gone to his former club Llantwit Major for five new additions, as well as signing three from Briton Ferry Llansawel where he was assistant coach.

In the Ardal South East, Newport City’s new ownership have been busy and have recruited several players in their bid for survival. Elsewhere in the South West, Cwmamman United have been busy, scouring the lower leagues for signings.
