Briton Ferry defy odds to reach Women’s Cup final after thrashing Aberystwyth Town

Genero Adran South side Briton Ferry Llansawel put three past Adran Premier side Aberystwyth Town, to book their spot in the FAW Women’s Cup Final.

The Ferry will face top flight side Cardiff City after the Bluebirds overcame the challenge of fellow South Wales side Cardiff Met Uni in the other semi-final on Sunday.

Rhys James’ side took the lead in the 20th minute through Lowri Baker. A corner by Lucy Powell was cleared away, which found Baker on the edge of the six yard box to fire into the net to give the second tier side the lead against the Seasiders.

Top scorer Megan Kearle doubled Briton Ferry’s lead early in the second half. Good hold up play by Laura-May Walkley on the byline allowed the winger to put in a cross to Kearle, who fired it into the top corner giving Carys Pugh-Jones no chance in the Aber Town net.

Fleur Jenkins completed the scoring for the Adran South side after finishing in the box to book Briton Ferry’s place in the FAW Women’s Cup Final.

It means Aberystwyth Town exit at the Semi-Final stage in both of their cup runs this season, after exiting the Genero Adran Trophy against Cardiff Met last time out.
