Penybont strike from spot to secure draw at New Saints

Nathan Wood’s late penalty was enough for Pen Y Bont to secure a point against the league leaders TNS in this pre curser to next week Welsh Cup semi-final.

Pen Y Bont started the game well, knocking the ball about nicely but it wasn’t long before TNS got a hold of the game and took control.

A clever move from The New Saints was finished off cleverly when Leo Smith couldn’t miss from Danny Redmond’s clever pass across the six yard box.

Despite TNS controlling possession for the first half, chances were few and far between for both sides.

Leo Smith had the chance in the second half to double his tally for the game but a fine stop from Kelland Absalom was enough to keep Pen Y Bont in the game.

The introduction of Shaun McDonald was a turning point. The former Cymru international was pivotal in bringing Pen Y Bont back into possession.

The possession payed off when substitute Sam Snaith was brought down late on in the box by Keston Davies. Nathan Wood made no mistake from the spot as he smashed his penalty into the roof of the net past Connor Roberts.

Danny Williams could’ve won it for TNS but his strike from the edge of the box flew over the bar.

The stalemate sets up a mouthwatering semi final between the two sides next weekend.
