As-it-happened: Barry Town United 0-1 Abergavenny Town

Barry Town United take on Abergavenny at Jenner Park on Sunday, in the first fixtures of the Plate Conference Plate.

With both teams currently occupying the bottom two places in the league, a win for either this Sunday would really boost their survival chances.

Barry are on a wretched run of form currently, with their last victory coming at the back end of October against Aberystwyth Town. The Linnets have also conceded 32 goals in the seven games since they played the Seasiders, and have only picked up one point. There is a sense within the squad that they only need one win to set their season back on track, but the pressure to get the three points is slowly growing.

It’s been a difficult week for Abergavenny. The league announced that it would be docking six points from the Pennies, but the club have strongly denied any wrongdoing and that they would be appealing the decision. On the pitch, things look bright for the young squad. After not picking up any points in their first ten games, they’ve notched up five points in their last four games, including a 1-0 victory over Pontypridd United.

Games between these two have been close this season. Mackenzie Olden scored an 89th minute winner at Pen-y-Pound Stadium, but Alana Murphy’s late strike meant Abergavenny snatched a point from Jenner Park after a 3-3 draw. There’s no doubt there’ll be a lot of entertainment this time round.
