Cardiff City Ladies have completed the signing of American forward Elianna Chavez, who joins from Adran Premier side Cardiff Met.

The 24-year-old leaves the Archers, after joining them from St Edward’s University in Texas in March 2021, alongside her fellow countrywoman Annabel Sweeney. Sweeney returned last March after helping her side to Adran Trophy glory, but Chavez opted to remain in Wales after the completion of her studies at Cyncoed Campus.

She played a total of 51 matches for the Met, scoring 15 goals in all competitions, whilst also registering six assists for her teammates. Chavez featured 18 times this season for the Met with five goals and three assists, racking up 1403 minutes for Yzzy Taylor’s side.

Chavez’s last match was a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City Women in which she played 30 minutes, after replacing Sophie Davidson. She was not included in the Met side that lost 2-0 to the New Saints last Sunday, in a losing start to Phase Two of 2022/23 Adran Premier campaign.

The American won the Adran Trophy last March and also played in the final of the Women’s Cup last April, and will now be tasked with helping her club try and win promotion from the English FA Women’s National League Division One, which is the fourth tier of English women’s football. She will reunite with her former Met teammates Emily Richards and Lauren Hutton-Townsend, who both left the Met last summer.

Cardiff are seven points behind league leaders Exeter City and level on points with Bournemouth but have three games in hand over the league leaders and four more than the Cherries.
