Llantwit Major outclass Cwmbran Celtic to go seven unbeaten

Llantwit Major made it seven games unbeaten in the JD Cymru South with a professional 2-1 victory against Cwmbran Celtic

In a tight and scrappy first half taking place under a deluge of rain it was Llantwit who took the lead just before the half time whistle. Tyler Jackson bundled a corner from the right hand side into the back of the net to sum up a messy first half with the conditions affecting play.

Major doubled their lead in the 80th minute when Harri Edwards grabbed the ball on the left wing and had a one on one with the Cwmbran keeper where the shot was saved initially but Edwards got on the rebound and from a tight angle was able to fire past the keeper to wrap up the victory for Llantwit.

Celtic did manage to get one goal back when their star man from last week Lewis Iles made it five in two games with almost the last kick of the game. He netted after a sustained period of Cwmbran pressure but alas it was too little to late for the hosts who have still never claimed a victory against the Major at home in the Cymru South.

The first half was certainly the half with more quality even if both teams struggled with the rainy conditions, Cwmbran tried to play the ball around and were happy to wait for space in the final third which never really came thanks in most part to Charlie Hansen-Taylor who seemed to be everywhere when Celtic tried to attack.

Whereas Llantwit looked more deadly on the counter attack and the visitors had the better of the half and deservedly took the lead just before the break.

Celtic did have a couple good chances mostly from crosses but the difference between the two sides was the level of quality in attack as Cwmbran failed to take their chances but Major took their big chances.

This result moves Llantwit eight points clear of Cwmbran Celtic although their is no change of league position for either side Llantwit remain in seventh place but are now level on points with Carmarthen in sixth spot.

Cwmbran will now be looking behind them in the league with Taffs Well only one point behind them and both Abergavenny town and Goytre united being two points behind todays hosts.
