Barry Town 1-0 Briton Ferry Recap: Evan Press wins it late for Cymru South champions
Barry Town and Briton Ferry meet in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup Southern final at Trefelin BGC’s Ynys Park.
The Cymru South’s top two teams have mirrored their league form in the cup competition and are now in the regional final of the inaugural League Cup.
To reach the final, Barry overcame Ynyshir Albions 4-0 in the semi-finals with goals from a hat-trick from Josh Bull and a goal from Kayne McLaggon. Lee Kendall’s side also beat Llanelli Town on penalties, as well as Cwmbran Celtic.
As for Andy Hill’s men, they beat today’s hosts Trefelin 5-2 back in mid-March. Tyler Brock got a brace whilst Kris Evans, Luke Bowen, and Cullen Kinsella were also on target. To reach the final they beat Taffs Well 4-3 in October, as well as Ammanford on penalties in September.
Both teams were in action on Good Friday with Barry winning against bottom-side Ynyshir Albions despite a rotated team. Seven players from their academy team featured but it was Liam Warman and January signing Kyle Jones on target for the Linnets.
Briton Ferry played in the evening but could only get a point against struggling Taffs Well. The Reds played to a goalless draw and did not play Luke Bowen, who has 26 goals in the league, as well as four in this competition.
