Aberystwyth came from a goal down to knock Barry Town out of the Nathaniel MG Cup at Jenner Park.

The first half ended goalless with clear chances at a premium. Kayne McLaggon had two chances for Barry, while Aber never really threatened Barry keeper Mike Lewis.

Barry continued to control the game at the start of the second half and were rewarded in the 59th minute. McLaggon getting his first goal of the season to give Barry the lead. This clearly woke up the visitors and Alex Darlington levelled the game in the 70th minute after coming off the bench. Aber then started to look the more likely to get the winner as Barry lost their impetus. In the 80th Billy Kirkman put them ahead with the winning goal.

Barry made a bright start and had the games first chance. Kayne McLaggon heading just wide from a Chris Hugh cross.

Callum Sainty then went on run from the halfway line to the edge of the box and played the ball to McLaggon. Forced wide McLaggon saw his shot saved by Dave Jones

McLaggon then tried a overhead kick but his spectacular effort went over the bar. Another chance then shortly followed Chris Hugh then put in a cross which found Evan Press at the far post but Press’ header went wide.

Jack Thorn sent a pass though to Mark Cadwallader but his effort was saved by Mike Lewis in the Barry goal.

Chris Hugh then played a perfect pass into McLaggon, who was free in the box. Striking the ball first time McLaggon fired into net to give Barry the lead.

Barry seemed to drop off the pace and Mark Cadwallader was sent in on goal. Cadwallader fired a shot off but it came back off the post with Lewis beaten.

Moments later Alex Darlington had Aber level after his corner kick curled into the top corner to level the scores.

Billy Kirkman then put Aber in front after his good work gave him space in the box. He fired a shot past Lewis to complete the turnaround.

Kirkman almost made it free after his powerful shot was saved well by Mike Lewis.

Barry had a chance to take the game to penalties when Hugh sent a ball into the path of McLaggon but the forward couldn’t direct the ball towards goal.
