Cardiff Met 1-0 Colwyn Bay : Sam Jones Goal sinks Seagulls

Sam Jones scored the only goal as Cardiff Met beat Colwyn Bay 1-0 at Cyncoed Campus in the JD Cymru Premier.

Met enjoyed large spells of possession and pressure during the first half and were rewarded in the 23rd minute with Sam Jones’ goal. Colwyn Bay made some changes at the break and had several chances to score but were denied by a combination of the crossbar and an inspired Alex Lang in the Met goal.

Cardiff Met are one of five teams now on seven points but sit in fifth on goal difference. Colwyn Bay drop down to 11th place still looking for their first win.

Met had the games first big chance as Eliot Evans put the ball in from the left and found the head of Sam Jones. Jones sent a downward header at goal but Alfie Brooks got down well to save.

The Archers continued the pressure and Brooks was called into action again to save Tom Vincent’s header.

Met’s pressure soon told and Sam Jones gave them the lead. A good ball into the box found Lewis Rees who was able to tee up Sam jones who fired past Brooks.

The host’s kept putting in good crosses and Joe Evans headed over before Vincent saw his header saved by Brooks.

The visitors made a double change at the break with Sam Turner and Thomas Marsh Hughes coming on. Soon after the restart and Tommy Creamer sent a shot past Alex Lang only to see it come back off the bar.

The Seagulls show more attacking intent in the second half and started to push for the equaliser. Udi Akpan thought he should have had a penalty after he was brought down in the box but the ref waved away the protests.

Akpan then played a defence splitting pass to find Nick Rushton. Rushton though on goal tried to lift the ball over Lang but the Met keeper had closed him down and made the save.

Akpan again caused Met problems as he worked his way into the box along the by-line. Akpan played the ball in front of goal but Thomas Marsh-Hughes’ effort was again saved by Lang.

As Colwyn Bay pushed forward they were almost caught out. Met got the ball to Harry Owen in the box but Brooks saved his effort.

The victors kept pushing into added time but Met were able to hold them out to pick up the win.
