Connah’s Quay mount comeback to sweep aside winless Barry Town

Connah’s Quay came from behind to win 4-1 against a winless Barry Town at Jenner Park Stadium.

Ollie Hubert gave the home side the lead after 22 minutes after the nomads had several chances.  Jordan Davies saw his headed goal ruled out but then did get the equaliser shortly after as the Nomads levelled in the 40th minute.  Then with 44 minutes on the clock Jack Kenny put the visitors ahead before the break. 

Connah’s Quay dominated the second half and added another two goals from Jordan Davies and John Disney. Davies making it 3-1 in the 66th minute before Disney added the fourth in the 85th.

Connah’s Quay move into second spot in the JD Cymru Table on 12 points one behind leaders TNS. Barry move down to 11th on three points a point behind 1oth placed Colwyn Bay.

Jack Kenny had the chance to open the scoring in the first minute as he found himself in on goal. Kenny fired a shot but Mike Lewis was out quickly to close and made the save.

Shortly after Kenny had another chance as he headed just over. Kenny headed in from Aron Williams’s cross on the right flank. The Nomads continued the pressure and Noah Edwards saw his effort from distance go wide.

Despite the pressure from the visitors, it was the hosts who took the lead. Jamie Veale with a quality cross into the box where Ollie Hubert sent a powerful header past Rushton.

The Nomads thought they had levelled when Davies headed in from John Disney’s corner. The ref saw an issue and disallowed the goal.

Just moments later however the Nomads did level the game. Davies again headed in but this time the goal stood.

Just before halftime, Connah’s Quay took the lead. A good run from Harry Franklin saw him set up Jack Kenny who hit a low shot underneath Mike Lewis.

Jordan Davies should have extended the lead early in the second half. Played in on goal Davies lashed a shot wide of the goal from inside the box.

Chasing the game Barry manager Steve Jenkins made a triple sub on the hour mark. Troy Greening, Jordan Cotterill and Sam Snaith all coming on the boast Barry’s attacking options.

The change did not help as Davies soon added his second and the Nomads third. The ball bouncing from player to player int he box before if fell to Davies who fired a low shot past Lewis.

Barry struggled to make any in roads going forward and it always looked like the Nomads would get the next goal. They did in the 85th minute when John Disney tapped in from close range after a lovley passing move across the pitch.
