Cardiff City meet Aberystwyth Town in Leckwith in both sides’ first game in phase two of the Adran Premier.

Both come into this opening fixture in contrasting situations, and it sure to make for an interesting matchup.

For Cardiff City, despite getting into both cup finals, the Bluebirds’ last league game saw them defeated by Swansea City; their first league loss for almost two years. However, cup semi-final wins over Aberystwyth and Swansea has re-energised hope and confidence amongst the squad. Some players have also come into form in the last few weeks. Molly Kehoe is back amongst the goals, while defenders Meg Bowen and Siobhan Walsh are set piece threats.

Aberystwyth, meanwhile, come into this with a new man in the dugout. Gari Lewis stepped down from his role last night, with Anthony Williams taking the role of caretaker manager until the end of the season. Williams is taking over a team who have done remarkably well to get into the top four, and with a young and hungry squad at his disposal, phase two gives him the chance to see how they fare against some of the country’s best teams on a weekly basis.

The sides have played against each other on three occasions so far this season. A 0-0 draw in the second game of phase one was followed up by a 5-0 City triumph at Park Avenue. The last time they faced off was in the aforementioned Adran Trophy semi-final, where the Bluebirds won 4-0; a Ffion Price hat trick and a Bowen strike drove the hosts to a big win.
