‘Motivated’ – Wales C manager reveals mood of Greenock Morton striker

Wales C manager Mark Jones has praised the approach of Jordan Davies ahead of his move to Greenock Morton.

The ‘C’ international is an exhibition match that many have used as a platform to earn a move to the Football League. Wales’ success stories are Adam Roscrow and Will Evans, who earned moves to AFC Wimbledon and Newport County on the back of their performances.

One player that won’t need to worry about his future however is Davies, who has a pre-contract agreement with Greenock Morton of the Scottish Championship. It was revealed in mid-January that Davies would head to Cappielow Park next season.

Davies is the highest-scoring Welshman in the Cymru Premier with 18 goals in 28 games but has made himself available for the fixture. The 28-year-old during his negotiations was said to have made his new club aware of the fixture and his desire to represent his country.

“He’s very well motivated for it and he can’t wait to play,” said Jones.

“When he signed a contract with Greenock Morton, he mentioned about the Wales squad and that he was still keen to play for them even though he’d already signed professional terms with them. What a great attitude.”

Patience has been a virtue for Davies, who was snubbed last year. He notched up 14 goals for Haverfordwest County last year in 32 games, but it wasn’t enough to get in.

This is the start of a fairly big week for Davies and his club Connah’s Quay. He could become a dual international having been part of the national futsal team.

Later this week should he come through unscathed, he’s all but a guaranteed starter as Nomads play Bala Town in the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup on Saturday.

It is one of six games that Davies is pencilled in before he leaves the Essity Stadium. A goal at Stebonheath Park would be a nice to start to his farewell tour to Welsh football.

“He’s been determined to get in this year,” admitted Jones.

“What he wants to do now is leave our league with a goal or two which would be a great way to start off his professional career.”
