Llantwit Major continue their 2023/24 Fenix Trophy campaign when they travel to London to face Enfield Town on Tuesday night.

Major, are playing in the competition for the first time in their history beat reigning holders BK Skjold (Boldklubben Skjold) in mid-February. Matt Kimmins netted for Ben Stait’s side who are currently 14th in the Cymru South table.

The group continues with Major in second, three points behind Enfield who won 3-1 against the Danish outfit in November. Enfield head into the game having secured a 2-1 win over Horsham at the weekend, a victory that put them third in the Isthmian League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football.

To get the low down on Llantwit’s opponents, we spoke to a supporter and one of the many club owners of the fan-owned Enfield Town, Phil G Rice.

What’s your personal opinion of the Fenix Trophy and Enfield Town’s involvement?

It’s a great opportunity to play different teams, in different environments. From a fan’s point of view, we get to travel to new grounds (trying new beers along the way!)

It’s quite closely contested but at the moment you’re in the play-off spots. How has this season gone for you? Meeting expectations?

Our season has followed its normal pattern; start well; hit the new year and injuries, suspensions and postponed games cause issues. We also have a new manager- so expectations are being met for this season.

What’s the perception of Llantwit Major and Welsh domestic football? Do you consider yourselves firm favourites for the match?

Not favourites – both teams are competitive. Not seen Llantwit Major, so can’t comment on that.

There’s actually yourselves Enfield Town and Enfield FC. Can you give us an insight into that situation? And what it means to be a Towners fan?

There is only one team playing in Enfield, and that’s Town. It’s a shame Enfield FC didn’t agree a few years ago to join us back in Enfield, for their own reasons.

Being a Towner is massive. From having 200 at home games in the Essex Senior League in 2001 to taking 300 to Copenhagen is a massive journey.

With the massive loss of Dave Bryant this weekend, we are more than a club, the loss is felt across the club and borough of Enfield.

Who’s the player or players that Llantwit Major should be most wary of?

Too many to name – the supporters are the massive 12th man! Marcus Wyllie has 24 goals and 11 assists in 32 games this season.

And finally… How do you expect Enfield Town to line up?

Tough call. With so many games coming thick and fast, play again 48 hours after this game and same after that one; the gaffer will be using the full squad, plus the tea lady!

Enfield Town’s last XI: Rhys Forster, Mickey Parcell, Joe Payne, Scott Thomas (C), Taylor Mackenzie, Bernie Tanner, Sam Youngs, Lewis Taaffe, Dylan Adjoin-Hersey, Marcus Wyllie and Ollie Knight.
