Cardiff Dracs put a dent in Penrhiwceiber Rangers Ardal South West title hopes with a clinical 3-0 win.

Sam Roberts scored in between Myles Corson’s efforts in the first and second half as the hosts took their chances. Ceiber failed to put Harry Johnson under any real pressure.

Penrhiwceiber remain top of the division but can now be overtaken by Cefn Cribwr who plays Seven Sisters Onllwyn on Wednesday. The Draconians move above Ynyshir Albions and are only three points off second though they haven’t applied for a Tier Two licence.

Dracs were without their joint scorer Sam Cawley and manager Nana Baah but were undeterred by their absence. They made the most of the wet conditions and nullified the Ceiber attack.

Penrhiwceiber tried to threaten from the flanks and early on Morgan Grahame put in a cross which Harry Johnson dealt with comfortably. It was a scrappy opening with the visitors unable to play a passing game with the conditions affecting them.

Efu Kazadi put Jacob Ireland under pressure by putting in a cross which he dropped but gathered at the second attempt. Corson found some joy as the midfield continued to loft balls to their widemen.

Good work from Brandon Davies saw him force Dracs into giving the ball away and Jenkins laid the ball off to Grahame though Bridgeman made a brilliant goal-saving block.

Dracs broke the deadlock from goalkeeper Johnson denying Grahame an opening. The ball was worked up to Kazadi and the Ceiber defender missed it for Corson to slide his effort home.

Defending their one-goal lead, Oscar Raisback made a well-timed sliding tackle to deny Grahame on the breakaway. The first half drew to a close with only one major chance of note.

Dracs doubled their lead just after the hour mark as they quickly went from defence to attack. Marinho Manga was left unmarked on the flank and there left unmarked was Roberts to flick a header home.

A common saying in football is you’re most vulnerable after scoring but Dracs dispelled that adage. Penrhiwceiber attacked from the kick-off and carved open a half opportunity but Bridgeman did well to block Thomas’s path at goal. Captain Warren Jones from the same attacking phase had a shot from a distance but Johnson saved it.

In stoppage time, Dracs further increased their lead as Dylan Amin picked up possession and laid the ball to Corson to tuck home his shot into the right-hand corner.

Nana Baah’s side have now played their final home game and have away matches against Ynysygerwn and Pontyclun over the next week. Penrhiwceiber doesn’t play next until May 11 against Pontyclun.
