Cambrian United have moved quickly to strengthen their squad by completing the signing of experienced striker Alex Bonthron, as the club continues its push for promotion in the JD Cymru South.

The 32-year-old forward arrives from JD Cymru Premier side Llanelli Town, adding proven goalscoring quality and valuable experience to a Cambrian United team sitting top of the table.

Alex Bonthron Brings Proven Goalscoring Record

Bonthron featured 11 times for Llanelli Town earlier this season and found the net in the Nathaniel MG Cup. Although he has not played since early October, his pedigree at this level is well established.

In his most recent full JD Cymru South campaign, Bonthron enjoyed a remarkable season with Cwmbran Celtic, scoring 30 goals and providing 10 assists in just 28 appearances. That return made him one of the most lethal forwards in the division.

Cambrian United Flying High at the Top

The striker joins a Cambrian United side in excellent form. The Rhondda outfit is currently unbeaten in eight league matches, holding an eight-point lead at the top of the JD Cymru South table following a New Year’s Day victory over Pontypridd United.

While several title rivals do have games in hand, Cambrian’s consistency and attacking threat have made them one of the standout teams in the league this season.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Alex for a long time,” said manager Liam Williams to the official club website.

“He’s a player we’ve been chasing for a number of seasons, and to finally bring him to Cambrian United is a real statement for the club.

“He’s a top-quality forward with proven pedigree, and his decision to join us says a lot about the direction we’re heading in and the project we’re building here in the Rhondda.”

Potential Debut Against Cardiff Draconians

Bonthron could make his Cambrian United debut next week when the league leaders travel to Cardiff Draconians.

The fixture could provide an early opportunity for the new signing to make a statement as the JD Cymru South title race begins to intensify.
