Holywell Town have confirmed that top scorer Jamie Breese will leave the club this summer ahead of their return to the Cymru Premier.

The Wellmen announced the news on social media with a heartfelt message saying, “Thank you, you will be missed,” accompanied by a photo of the striker.

Breese leaves Holywell after an exceptional spell at the club, finishing with an impressive record of 72 goals in 89 appearances. The forward enjoyed a standout campaign last season, scoring 24 league goals to win the Cymru North Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.

Speechless, to be honest. I didn’t really expect to win that one,” said Breese when he received the award on Saturday.

“I’ve got to thank everyone at the club for this, especially my teammates, because I’m not going to win this by myself.”

Having helped Holywell to a third-placed finish, earning them promotion, he said: “It’s a massive achievement. I said when I signed that I wanted to take this club back to where they belong, and I’ve done that.”

“Last year I missed out on the Golden Boot by a goal or two, so I was determined to get it this year. Luckily, I’ve done it and achieved promotion as well, so it’s been a great season all round.”

In addition to his goalscoring exploits, Breese also provided 14 league assists, highlighting his all-round attacking influence. He also contributed four goals and one assist in six cup appearances during the campaign.

His departure represents a major blow for Holywell as they prepare for their first season in the Welsh top flight since 1999. Replacing Breese’s goals, creativity, and experience will now become one of the club’s biggest priorities this summer.

Career

Breese has spent much of his career with Mid Wales clubs, featuring for Newtown AFC and Llanidloes Town, while also enjoying a lengthy five-year spell with Caernarfon Town.

His experience at Cymru Premier level will undoubtedly be missed as Holywell embark on their first top-flight adventure in 27 years. Across his career, Breese has made 139 appearances in the Welsh top division, recording 15 goals and seven assists.

During his time with Newtown, Breese helped guide the club into the UEFA Europa Conference League, famously scoring against former club Caernarfon in the play-off final.
