The Ardal North West title race looks set to be one of the most open in recent years following the promotion of two of the division’s biggest clubs and the absence of any relegated side from the Cymru North.

Bangor City 1876 and Porthmadog both secured promotion last season, leaving no obvious frontrunner heading into the new campaign. With no club dropping down from the Cymru North following Flint Mountain’s demotion to the feeder leagues, there isn’t a relegated side to assume the role of pre-season favourites.

Instead, several clubs will believe they have a genuine chance of lifting the title when the season reaches its conclusion next spring.

Broughton United, Kinmel Bay and Nefyn United join the division after winning promotion, while Connah’s Quay Town have been handed a reprieve and retain their place in the league following Flint Mountain’s removal from the pyramid.

The bookmakers have already released their outright title odds, with few surprises among the leading contenders and a handful of intriguing outsiders.

Close-fought title race

When the market first opened, Llannefydd were installed as early favourites, but opinion has shifted, with many now backing Trearddur Bay to lift the title.

Trearddur’s recruitment has certainly caught the eye. They have raided Bethesda Athletic for five players, while the additions of Iolo Hughes and Liam Morris, who helped guide both Bangor City 1876 and Porthmadog to promotion, suggest they are assembling a squad capable of challenging at the top. Callum Parry has also arrived from Llanrwst United and is a proven performer at this level after scoring 27 goals in 24 league games last season.

Prestatyn Town have also been active in the transfer market. The Seasiders have strengthened with the signings of Macauley Taylor and Lewis Evans from NFA, while manager Aden Shannon enjoyed success at this level with Flint Mountain and will be hoping to replicate that achievement at Bastion Gardens.

Close behind them are Llannefydd, who have recruited smartly. The arrival of Llyr Morris from Ruthin Town adds valuable experience, with the 30-year-old scoring seven goals in the Cymru North last season. His pedigree at a higher level could prove an important asset as Llannefydd look to mount a serious title challenge.

Promoted sides tipped to avoid relegation

Y Felinheli are the bookmakers’ favourites for relegation, with the loss of prolific striker Byron Davis to Holyhead Hotspur likely playing a significant part in that assessment. The 18-year-old scored 20 league goals and 28 in all competitions last season, leaving a sizeable void to fill. Felinheli finished 13th last term, six points clear of what would have been the relegation places.

Mynydd Isa are the next least-fancied side after ending last season in 14th on 27 points. Had Connah’s Quay Town been relegated, the gap to safety would have been just four points. There is reason for optimism, however, with the club’s Under-21 side crowned champions of the National League Reserve Championship Conference, providing a promising crop of youngsters ready to challenge for first-team places.

Connah’s Quay Town complete the bottom three in the early betting. They finished in a relegation position last season but were handed a reprieve following Flint Mountain’s demotion from the Welsh football pyramid. After several managerial changes during the previous campaign, Town will hope that greater stability can help steer them away from trouble.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix, Llangefni Town and newly promoted Broughton United are all priced just ahead of the bottom three, suggesting the battle to avoid finishing 14th could be as competitive as the race for the title. Encouragingly for the promoted clubs, both Broughton United and Kinmel Bay are tipped to survive comfortably, with Kinmel even backed for a top-half finish. Nefyn United are also expected to steer clear of the relegation battle in their first season back at this level.
