Briton Ferry flexed their superiority as they swept aside Afan United 5-0 to book their place in the third round of the Welsh Cup.
The Reds produced a dominant display at Old Road, with Joseph Lloyd and Corey Hurford finding the net in the first half before Luke Bowen stole the show after the break with a superb hat-trick.
Afan United, who compete in the South Wales Premier League three divisions below their opponents, struggled to contain the top-flight outfit as Ferry’s quality shone through.
Lloyd opened the scoring with a moment of brilliance, firing a long-range effort into the top-right corner before Hurford doubled the advantage with a clinical finish from a narrow angle.
Bowen then took centre stage in the second half, scoring twice in the space of two minutes before completing his hat-trick in the 66th minute.
There was a late opportunity for the Reds to add a sixth when they were awarded a penalty, but Ollie Anderson saw his spot-kick saved by Afan United goalkeeper Liam Sheehy.
Despite the missed penalty, it was an emphatic evening for Briton Ferry as they secured their place in the hat for the next round.
Here are three standout performers from the five-star victory.

Luke Bowen rolls back the years with superb hat-trick
Bowen delivered a reminder of his quality with a clinical second-half performance that ultimately put the tie beyond doubt.
The experienced Cymru Leagues forward has been a familiar figure in Welsh football for years, having played at the top level more than a decade ago. With his league minutes having been limited, the opportunity to start offered him a chance to make an impression — and he took it emphatically.
His movement inside the penalty area and composed finishing proved too much for Afan United, with two goals arriving within two minutes before he completed his treble in the 66th minute.
It was a vintage display from a player who knows exactly what is required at this level. Bowen’s ability to find space, anticipate opportunities and finish decisively made him the standout performer on the night.
He also wore the captain’s armband during the latter stages, underlining the experience and leadership he can bring to the squad as Briton Ferry look to build momentum in the Cymru Premier.

Joseph Lloyd sets the tone with moment of brilliance
Lloyd gave the Reds the perfect start with an outstanding opening goal, finding the top-right corner with a long-range effort that immediately showcased his technical ability.
The midfielder’s contribution, however, went beyond the spectacular finish. Operating in the middle of the park, he helped Ferry establish control and dictate the tempo against opponents who found it difficult to disrupt their rhythm.
His work in the midfield double pivot allowed the visitors to progress the ball effectively and exploit spaces between Afan United’s lines.
Lloyd’s composure in possession and willingness to contribute going forward were important features of a performance that demonstrated why the gap between the divisions can be so difficult to bridge.
Having completed another full 90 minutes in the previous outing against Connah’s Quay, the 24-year-old continued to show his value to the side.
His opening goal set the tone for the evening, but his influence across midfield was just as important in helping Ferry maintain their authority throughout the contest.
Tom Walters provides the link-up play behind Ferry’s attacking display
While Bowen took the headlines with his hat-trick and Lloyd supplied the opening goal, Walters also made a significant contribution to the Reds’ attacking performance.
The forward was at the heart of several dangerous moves, offering more than just a presence in front of goal. His intelligent link-up play helped Ferry move the ball quickly around the final third and put the Afan United defence under sustained pressure.
That technical quality was particularly evident in the build-up to Hurford’s goal, with neat passing around the edge of the penalty area helping create the opening for the second strike.
Walters also brought his customary physicality to the contest, competing effectively in the air and on the ground against an Afan United side that struggled to gain a foothold.
His ability to combine strength with tidy combination play gave Ferry another attacking dimension and helped ensure the visitors’ superiority was reflected in the scoreline.
Reds send out a Welsh Cup warning
For Briton Ferry, the 5-0 victory was a professional response to a cup tie in which they were expected to progress, by manager Andy Dyers’ own admission.
The Welsh top-flight side made their technical advantage count, with Lloyd’s spectacular opener, Hurford’s finish and Bowen’s second-half treble settling the contest before Anderson’s saved penalty offered Afan United a late reprieve.
The result sends the Reds into the third round of the Welsh Cup with confidence, while the performances of Bowen, Lloyd and Walters will provide encouragement as they turn their attention back to their league campaign.
For Afan United, the challenge proved a difficult one against opponents playing three divisions higher, but the occasion offered a valuable test against top-flight opposition.
Briton Ferry will now look ahead to the next round, hoping to carry the momentum from a commanding five-star display into the next stage of their season.
