Colwyn Bay came from behind to lead despite playing with 10 men, but Cardiff Met fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in an entertaining encounter.

Sam Snaith gave Cardiff Met the lead in the first half, finishing from close range after excellent combination play between Aaron Wildig and Lifumpa Mwandwe, who provided the final pass.

Colwyn Bay threatened through Jordan Davies, who saw one effort saved before firing narrowly wide. Goalkeeper Aaron Davies also made two sharp saves, including denying Jack Kenny after an impressive run into the box.

The major turning point came when Ryan Astles was sent off following a VAR review for a last-man challenge on Mwandwe. Veale sent the resulting free-kick over the crossbar.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Colwyn Bay grew stronger after the break and equalised when Snaith inadvertently headed a dangerous set-piece delivery into his own net.

The hosts then completed a remarkable turnaround as Sam Hart scored directly from a corner, with the ball evading everyone, including goalkeeper Aaron Davies, to put Colwyn Bay 2-1 ahead.

Jordan Davies appeared to extend the lead with a well-placed finish into the bottom-right corner, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Cardiff Met eventually restored parity through Payne, who finished after a flowing move involving Mwandwe, Joel Edwards and Snaith.

Late drama followed when Declan Poole’s left-footed effort looked dangerous, only for Veale to produce a crucial headed clearance.

Here are three players who stood out from the encounter.

Sam Hart stunned himself with first Cymru Premier goal since 2021

It was a big moment for captain Sam Hart, who could hardly believe he had found the net when his side needed him most.

Hart scored Colwyn Bay’s second goal directly from a corner, with the delivery looping over everyone and finding its way into the net in an unexpected fashion.

The goal marked his first in the Cymru Premier since May 2021, when he scored for Flint Town United against Cefn Druids.

Hart has primarily contributed creatively this season, registering five assists before finding the net against Cardiff Met. His ability to influence games from a defensive position has been important for Bay so far this season, but this was a rare opportunity to add his name to the scoresheet.

His contribution was particularly significant given the circumstances. The hosts spent nearly an hour with 10 men following Ryan Astles’ dismissal, leaving Hart and his team-mates with a difficult task as they attempted to hold their own against Cardiff Met.

The captain’s goal and leadership helped his side stay competitive in a match that demanded resilience, making him one of Colwyn Bay’s standout performers.

Lifumpa Mwandwe’s blistering pace caused Colwyn Bay problems

Lifumpa Mwandwe may not have registered a goal or an assist on the night, but his performance showed why he remains an important part of Cardiff Met’s attacking play.

The winger repeatedly troubled Bay with his blistering pace, stretching the hosts’ defence and creating opportunities for his team-mates to exploit.

Mwandwe played a key role in Cardiff Met’s opening goal, combining with Aaron Wildig in a move that showcased the visitors’ ability to move the ball quickly through intricate passing. Wildig eventually played the ball into Sam Snaith, who finished calmly from close range.

It was the type of attacking sequence that highlighted Mwandwe’s influence beyond the statistics. Although his season’s return stood at one goal and three assists, his direct running and ability to unsettle defenders offered Cardiff Met another route forward.

He was also at the centre of the game’s major disciplinary moment, having been brought down by Ryan Astles in the incident that resulted in the Colwyn Bay defender being sent off.

That dismissal changed the contest, forcing Colwyn Bay to play with a numerical disadvantage for much of the match.

Mwandwe’s evening was therefore about much more than his personal goal contributions. His pace, movement and ability to put defenders under pressure helped shape the game and gave Cardiff Met a constant attacking threat.

Sam Snaith delivered at both ends in eventful display

Sam Snaith was arguably one of the most influential players on the pitch, contributing directly to Cardiff Met’s goals while also experiencing a moment he would rather forget.

The forward opened his side’s scoring with a composed finish from close range after Aaron Wildig supplied the ball. It was a confident finish that brought Snaith his fifth goal of the season and gave Cardiff Met an important foothold in the contest.

He then turned provider for Cardiff Met’s second goal, laying the ball into the path of Jasper Payne, who fired past Mark Halstead to bring the game level at 2-2.

The combination of a goal and an assist underlined Snaith’s importance to the visitors’ attacking efforts. His ability to finish chances and bring others into play made him a constant presence in the final third.

However, his evening also included an unfortunate contribution at the opposite end of the pitch.

With the score at 1-0, Snaith turned the ball into his own net from a corner, beating goalkeeper Aaron Davies and handing Colwyn Bay a way back into the game.

It was a moment he would undoubtedly have wanted to avoid, but it did little to diminish his overall influence on the contest.

With a goal, an assist and an own goal to his name, Snaith was involved in three significant moments that shaped the evening.
