Three Wrexham players who stood out including ‘remarkable’ striker as Adran Premier leaders beat Barry Town United

Wrexham's Maria Francis-Jones celebrates scoring her sides third goal in the Genero Adran Premier 26/27 fixture between Barry Town United Women and Wrexham

Wrexham maintained their place at the top of the Adran Premier with a 3-1 victory over Barry Town United.

Goals from Natasha Thomas, Faye Knox and Maria Francis-Jones helped Wrexham claim all three points, although the hosts could feel they should have won by a more convincing margin after creating numerous opportunities throughout the contest.

Barry showed signs of improvement despite the defeat, with Steve McCarthy-Campbell’s side making life difficult for Wrexham after a difficult opening to the season. However, the Reds’ quality in possession and attacking threat ultimately proved decisive.

Here are three players who stood out:

Natasha Thomas continues remarkable scoring run for Wrexham

Natasha Thomas once again showed why she remains such an important player for Wrexham, extending her scoring run to six consecutive Adran Premier games with the opening goal against Barry.

After returning from international duty with Jamaica, Thomas wasted little time making her mark. Maria Francis-Jones provided an excellent pass to pick her out, and the forward calmly finished into the bottom-left corner to give the Reds the lead.

It was another example of Thomas doing what she does best: finding the net when her team needs her. The striker had further opportunities to add to her tally before being substituted after 74 minutes, but Barry goalkeeper Molly Arnesen helped keep the scoreline respectable.

The goal was Thomas’ eighth of the season so far, underlining her importance to a Wrexham side looking to maintain their position at the summit of the league.

Maria Francis-Jones delivers goal and assist in Wrexham victory

Maria Francis-Jones was another standout performer, contributing directly to two of Wrexham’s three goals in a productive afternoon.

Her first major contribution came when she played a superb pass through to Thomas for the opening goal, creating the opportunity for the forward to continue her impressive scoring streak.

Francis-Jones then added a goal of her own after the interval. Her corner delivery caused problems in the Barry penalty area, travelling through a crowd of players and finding its way into the net to restore Wrexham’s two-goal advantage.

The contribution takes her season tally to five goals and five assists, representing an encouraging start to the campaign for a player who continues to influence games in the final third.

Her numbers also highlight the progress she has made compared with the 2024/25 season, when she recorded three goals and six assists across Phase One.

While the goals naturally attracted attention, Lili Jones was one of the players who helped establish Wrexham’s control of the contest.

One of the few remaining original players from the club’s promotion to the Adran Premier, Jones demonstrated her quality throughout the game, combining intelligent movement with composed passing and an ability to drive her side forward.

Alongside midfield partner Bella Reidford, she helped Wrexham dictate the tempo for long spells. The pair provided a platform for the Reds’ attacking players to create chances, with the hosts enjoying sustained periods of possession despite Barry’s efforts to remain competitive.

Jones also threatened in the final third, striking the post from outside the box as Wrexham looked to extend their lead before half-time.

Jones has now matched her best Phase One goal-contribution tally from the 2024/25 campaign. She has scored three times and provided four assists in the 2026/27 season, compared with two goals and five assists she had in Phase one of 2024/25 season.

For a player who has been part of Wrexham’s journey since promotion, her continued influence is another positive for the club.
