Welsh Cup first round draw: Rhydyfelin Non Pol, Holyhead, and Llanberis discover their fate

The Welsh Cup first round draw has thrown up several intriguing ties, with some of the competition’s lowest-ranked clubs rewarded with the chance to cause another upset.
Rhydyfelin Non Pol, the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, have been handed an away tie against Goytre United.
Non Pol produced one of the biggest shocks of the previous round when they edged past Brecon Corries 6-5 in a remarkable goal-fest.
Their reward is a meeting with a Goytre United side who will arrive with plenty of confidence after putting eight goals past Non Pol’s local rivals Rhydyfelin in the previous round.
It means there will be plenty of local interest surrounding the tie, with Non Pol now hoping to repeat their giant-killing exploits against a side that has already shown its firepower in the competition.
Tongwynlais, meanwhile, will also have home advantage when they welcome Evans & Williams.
The second-lowest ranked team in the competition, Tongwynlais progressed to the first round after their own upset, while Evans & Williams secured their place by beating Port Talbot Town on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Fifth-tier side Aberbargoed Buds face a difficult trip to Cymru South opposition in the shape of Cardiff Draconians.
There is also a potentially fascinating tie in north Wales, where fifth-tier Llysfaen will host Barmouth & Dyffryn United.
Llysfaen were involved in another high-scoring affair in the previous round, beating Rhuddlan Town 7-3. Barmouth & Dyffryn United, meanwhile, booked their place with a narrow victory over Penrhyndeudraeth.
Meliden will make Welsh Cup history of their own when they play in the first round for the first time.
They have been handed a trip to Felinheli as they look to continue their run in the competition.
Aberystwyth Town, who are playing in the Cymru South, have been placed in the Northern section of the draw and face an unusual trip to Bangor University to take on Menai Bridge Tigers.

When are the Welsh Cup first round matches?
The Welsh Cup first round matches are scheduled to take place over the weekend of September 19-20.
The clubs that emerge victorious will then progress to the second round, where the Cymru Premier sides enter the competition, raising the possibility of even bigger ties and further opportunities for giant-killing.
