The Cymru South clubs attracting the biggest crowds as attendance figures reveal differences across South Wales

The Cymru South clubs pulling in the biggest crowds have been revealed, with Aberystwyth Town leading the way and some clubs attracting more than three times the average attendance of others.

Aberystwyth Town recorded the highest average attendance among the 16 clubs listed, with an average crowd of 405.

Trethomas Bluebirds were close behind on 392, while Pure Swansea completed the top three with an average of 330 spectators.

At the other end of the table, Pontardawe Town recorded an average attendance of 123, meaning there was a difference of 282 supporters between the highest and lowest figures.

Across all 16 clubs, the combined average is around 252 supporters per match.

Aberystwyth Town lead the way on average attendances

Aberystwyth Town sit at the top of the attendance figures, averaging 405 supporters per game.

Trethomas Bluebirds are only 13 spectators behind, with an average of 392, highlighting the strong support enjoyed by both clubs. A large part of that will have been the 810 who watched the Caerphilly Derby against Caerphilly Athletic, in which former Cardiff City and Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra played.

Pure Swansea are third with 330, followed by Llanelli Town on 310 and Pontypridd United on 302.

That means five clubs are averaging more than 300 supporters per match.

Carmarthen Town are next on 288, with Cardiff Dracs averaging 278 and Ynyshir Albions recording 267.

Eight clubs average more than 200 fans

The figures show that the majority of the clubs listed are attracting crowds of more than 200 supporters.

Afan Lido average 243, while Baglan Dragons are on 233.

Caerau Ely and Caerphilly Athletic both have an average attendance of 207, putting them level in the figures.

There is then a noticeable gap to Llantwit Major, who average 173 supporters. Treowen Stars are on 141, while Newport City average 134.

What the numbers show about Cymru South support

The figures underline the different levels of matchday support across the Cymru South clubs.

Aberystwyth Town’s average of 405 is more than three times Pontardawe Town’s figure of 123, while Trethomas Bluebirds are also within touching distance of the top spot.

There is also a relatively tight group in the middle of the table, with Cardiff Dracs, Ynyshir Albions, Afan Lido and Baglan Dragons all averaging between 233 and 278 supporters.

Overall, the 16 clubs listed have a combined average of around 252 spectators per match, although the individual figures vary considerably.

For clubs at every level of Welsh football, attendances provide an important snapshot of the support behind teams on matchday, and these Cymru South figures show just how varied that support can be from one ground to another.
