Welsh Cup round two: Caernarfon Town handed repeat of final against Flint Town United

Welsh Cup holders Caernarfon Town have been handed a repeat of last season’s Welsh Cup final after being drawn away to Flint Town United in the second round.

The Canaries lifted the trophy after beating Flint in the final and will now begin their defence against the same opponents, setting up an immediate reunion between the two sides.

It is one of the standout ties in a second-round draw which sees the Cymru Premier clubs enter the competition, while a number of lower-league sides have been handed the chance to cause a major upset.

The ties are scheduled to be played on October 17-18, 2026.

Caernarfon return to Flint for final rematch

Caernarfon Town’s first match in this season’s Welsh Cup could hardly have been more familiar.

The holders will travel to Flint Town United in a repeat of the final, bringing the two clubs together again in the competition just months after they battled for the trophy.

It means Flint will have an immediate opportunity to avenge their final defeat, while Caernarfon’s defence begins against the side they beat to become Welsh Cup holders.

The Cofis secured their first Welsh Cup with a 3-0 victory over Flint at Newport’s Rodney Parade, taking full control of the final with three goals inside the opening 18 minutes.

Sion Bradley opened the scoring before Matty Jones doubled Caernarfon’s advantage with a free-kick, with Adrian Cieślewicz heading home the third.

And the two sides have already met this season, with Caernarfon once again running out 3-0 winners in the Cymru Premier on September 4.

Zack Clarke scored twice in that league meeting before Osian Evans added a third, giving the Canaries another convincing victory over Flint and making the Welsh Cup draw an even more intriguing prospect.

The northern section also features an all-Cymru Premier meeting between Airbus UK Broughton and The New Saints, while Connah’s Quay Nomads host Porthmadog and Colwyn Bay travel to Buckley Town.

Cymru Premier clubs discover their opponents

Penybont will travel to Afan Lido in the southern section, while Barry Town United host Tredegar Town.

Briton Ferry Llansawel have been drawn at home against Afan United and Cardiff Met will welcome Ynyshir Albions.

Haverfordwest County host Cardiff Corinthians, while Trefelin face Llantwit Major.

Three of the lowest-ranked clubs remain in the draw

The second round also provides a huge opportunity for three of the lowest-ranked clubs still involved.

FC Cwmaman, from the South Wales Premier League Championship, will host Ammanford.

Blaen-y-Maes, of the Swansea Senior League, have been handed a home tie against Ely Rangers.

In north Wales, Llysfaen from North Wales Coast East Division One will host Mochdre Sports.

A run into the third round would give all three clubs the chance to share the spotlight with some of Welsh football’s biggest names.
