Baglan Dragons booked their place in the next round of the Welsh Cup with a 3-1 victory over a battling Llantwit Fardre side, with individual moments of quality proving decisive in an entertaining contest.

Llantwit made the brighter start and took the lead through Ryan Prosser in the 19th minute, as the striker punished a defensive error with a superb volley.

However, Baglan responded quickly, with Tobias Jones heading home an excellent cross before Tom Davies put the visitors ahead with a free-kick in the 38th minute.

Jones then settled the contest in the second half, taking his tally to two goals by rounding goalkeeper Jason Pritchard and finishing confidently after being played through by substitute Iestyn Williams.

While the scoreline favoured Baglan, Llantwit showed plenty of determination and created opportunities of their own. Here are four players who stood out during the Welsh Cup tie.

Toby Jones – Baglan Dragons

Jones was the decisive figure in Baglan’s victory, scoring twice to help his side recover from an early setback and secure their progression.

His first goal arrived in the 22nd minute, when he peeled away from his marker to meet an excellent cross and head home the equaliser. The timing was important, with Llantwit having enjoyed a positive start and looked capable of causing the visitors further problems.

Jones continued to provide a physical presence up front, using his strength to hold up the ball and bring teammates into play.

His second goal was the defining moment of the afternoon. Played through by substitute Iestyn Williams, Jones found himself one-on-one with Pritchard, rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the net despite a defender attempting to get back and prevent the finish.

Two goals and a clinical contribution in the decisive moments made Jones an obvious candidate for one of the standout performances.

Tom Davies – Baglan Dragons

Davies supplied the moment of quality that put Baglan in front before half-time.

With the score level at 1-1, the midfielder stepped up to take a free-kick from the right-hand side in the 38th minute. His delivery caught everyone out and found its way into the net, giving Llantwit goalkeeper Pritchard little opportunity to deal with the danger.

The goal proved significant in a match where Llantwit had started brightly and continued to threaten going forward.

Davies also helped Baglan maintain an attacking threat from set-pieces. In the second half, he tried his luck again with a free-kick from further out, but this time his effort landed on the roof of the net.

His contribution was about more than simply getting his name on the scoresheet. The goal gave Baglan the lead at a crucial stage and allowed them to approach the second half with an advantage.

Ryan Prosser – Llantwit Fardre

Despite ending up on the losing side, Prosser gave Llantwit a focal point in attack and produced one of the moments of the match with his opening goal.

In the 19th minute, a long ball over the top caused problems for the Baglan defence. Prosser reacted quickly to the loose ball and unleashed a superb half-volley that flew past Cameron Clarke, who was left rooted to the spot.

It was a finish that rewarded Llantwit’s energetic start and gave the home supporters reason to believe an upset could be possible.

Prosser continued to work hard against Baglan’s defenders, looking to stretch the opposition with runs in behind and offering an outlet when Llantwit needed to relieve pressure.

He also came close to adding another after receiving a threaded pass under pressure, only to send his left-footed effort over the bar from close range.

Although he could not prevent Llantwit’s defeat, Prosser’s goal and attacking work made him one of the hosts’ most influential players.

Ceirion Harris – Llantwit Fardre

Llantwit captain Harris provided energy and determination in midfield as the hosts sought to compete with Baglan throughout the contest.

Operating in a holding role, Harris helped disrupt the visitors’ attacks and was particularly effective when stepping in to win possession. One important intervention saw him make a well-timed tackle to prevent Davies from getting a shot away.

He also worked hard to connect Llantwit’s midfield and forward line, laying the ball off for teammates and helping the hosts maintain their momentum during a positive opening spell.

As Baglan grew into the game, Harris continued to battle in the middle of the pitch, with his defensive work helping Llantwit remain competitive even when the visitors enjoyed periods of possession.

The captain’s performance reflected the determination shown by the home side, who continued to search for a way back into the contest after falling behind.
