A Coronation Street star has shown his support for a Welsh football club after posing in its new shirts, which feature rock bands instead of traditional corporate sponsors.
Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw in the ITV soap, has shared photos of himself wearing both the home and away kits for Cwmbran Celtic, an Ardal South East club based in South Wales.
The 45-year-old actor, who was born in Pwllheli, posted the images on Instagram, showcasing the club’s 2026/27 strips, which have been produced by Welsh kit manufacturer Tor Sports, based in Rogerstone.
The collaboration sees the grassroots football club team up with independent music acts, with the shirts also helping to support a charity dedicated to protecting grassroots music venues across the UK.

Pierce can be seen wearing the club’s yellow and blue home shirt, which features the name and imagery of Welsh band Super Furry Animals across the front.
The away kit takes inspiration from Celtic’s traditional green-and-white hoops, with Scottish band Mogwai taking pride of place as the front-of-shirt sponsor.
The unusual partnership replaces conventional corporate shirt sponsorship with independent music acts, bringing together two important parts of Welsh and British grassroots culture.
Sharing the photos, Pierce praised the people behind the collaboration, writing on Instagram: “Thrilled to see two legends of the South Wales music scene @mattleejarrett & @connorccg replacing corporate sponsors with kickass rock bands on this season’s @cwmbrancelticfc kits.”
He added: “Some of you may have seen Grian from Fontaines DC repping the Mogwai one at Reading Festival, but here I am delighted with my @superfurryanimals Home & @mogwaiband Away.”
Signing off his post, the actor wrote: “Also big up @panicshack & @loosearticles on the Women’s team shirts.
“Up the Celts!”

Fontaines DC frontman Grian Chatten previously wore the Cwmbran Celtic shirt
Coronation Street star Pierce is not the first high-profile name to be spotted wearing one of the club’s music-inspired shirts.
Grian Chatten, the frontman of Irish band Fontaines DC, previously wore Cwmbran Celtic’s Mogwai-sponsored away shirt when he performed at Reading Festival, where the band took to the stage as the final act of the night.
His appearance helped bring attention to the club’s distinctive approach to kit sponsorship, which celebrates independent music rather than relying on conventional commercial brands.
The latest celebrity endorsement from Pierce adds another recognisable name to the growing list of people associated with the shirts.
The actor has played Todd Grimshaw on Coronation Street since 2020 and has become a familiar face to viewers of the long-running ITV soap.
Away from Weatherfield, Pierce has appeared in a number of other television productions, including Welsh crime drama Hinterland, 35 Diwrnod and Stella, which aired on Sky One.
He was also nominated in the Serial Drama Performance category at the 2026 National Television Awards and won Best Actor at this year’s Inside Soap Awards. His work on Coronation Street has seen him appear in more than 450 episodes of the programme.

Cwmbran Celtic’s women’s kits feature Panic Shack and Loose Articles
The club’s music partnerships extend beyond the men’s team, with the women’s kits also featuring independent bands.
Cardiff indie-punk group Panic Shack sponsors the women’s home shirt, while Manchester punk band Loose Articles features on the away strip.
Panic Shack have quickly established themselves as one of Wales’ most exciting emerging bands, attracting a growing audience through their energetic sound and irreverent lyrics.
Their tracks include The Ick, which has amassed around 3.7 million Spotify streams, alongside Jiu Jits You with 1.2 million, Girl Band Starter Pack with 965,000 and Gok Wan with 1.3 million.
The group currently attracts more than 149,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, underlining the growing reach of Welsh independent music.
Manchester’s Loose Articles, meanwhile, brings another independent punk name into the collaboration through its sponsorship of the women’s away shirt.
The partnership also has a charitable element, with 10% of profits from shirt sales being donated to the UK charity Music Venue Trust, which works to protect, secure and improve grassroots music venues.
By combining football, independent music and charitable fundraising, Cwmbran Celtic’s kits offer a different take on the traditional football shirt sponsorship model and have now caught the attention of a Coronation Street star.
