When you’re on the receiving end of huge scorelines and almost a guaranteed three points, some may ask what is the point?
After years of being on the end of thrashings by the opposition, Dinas Powys look a changed side, having not lost this season.
Towards the tail end of last season, Dinas looked to Lee Saunders, the man who turned the side from a mid table side to a joint top finishing side, only to lose the league on goal difference to change their fortunes. He did this by turning his Dinas side into a team hard to beat, by only losing 2 games in the final 7 of the season.
With the success of the side of previous years, a few of the old girls returned home to play for Dinas again. The return of a few former players in the form of Laura Murray, Kelly Tuck and Nau Yamanda as well as the recent signings of Alen Allen and Naomi Wilsonn have changed the clubs fortunes and now Dinas ladies hold a 6 point gap over Cardiff City’s Developmental side.
Murray’s return to Dinas was an interesting one, due to the fact that manager Lee Saunders was the manager who had given her, her debut in football and now she has a bit of a goalscoring record going for herself.
Saunders stood down last season season as the Dinas Powys Mens side to take up a coaching job with AFC Porth alongside Gareth Morgan.
Steve Thompsson and Neil Cordy remained at the club and their loyalty is now being rewarded as Dinas seek promotion to the next level.
With Saunders also managing the U14 boys, he has brought joy to one and all at Dinas once again in a new kind of way.
