Flint Town United continued their positive run of form under Danny Holmes with a 2-0 victory over Trefelin.

The result marked a third win in four league games under Holmes, with Flint showing signs of growing confidence as they look to build momentum.

Owolabi was the man on the scoresheet, finding the net twice to put the game beyond Trefelin.

Tunde Owolabi doubles his season tally with clinical display

Owolabi was a constant threat going forward and proved decisive when the opportunities came his way, scoring twice to help Flint secure the victory.

The forward showed an ability to find himself in the right place at the right time, making the most of the openings that came his way while giving Trefelin plenty to think about throughout the contest.

His two goals were particularly significant given that he had scored just twice previously this season, meaning he doubled his league tally on the night.

Owolabi’s recent form has also been encouraging. Since Danny Holmes took charge, the forward has scored four goals in all competitions across his last five games, underlining the impact he is beginning to make in the side.

With Flint looking to maintain their momentum under Holmes, Owolabi’s growing confidence in front of goal could prove an important factor in the games ahead.

Lassana Mendes runs the show

Mendes was another player who stood out, producing an influential performance despite not registering a goal or an assist on the evening.

Having played Baller League on Monday, Mendes was back in action for Flint and looked at home as he helped dictate proceedings against Trefelin.

There was plenty of competition for the standout performer award, with fellow Baller League player Isaac Modi also causing the hosts problems throughout the evening. Both players offered a threat, but Mendes was our pick for the way he influenced the game.

His contribution went beyond simply carrying the ball forward. Mendes helped win the penalty that led to Flint’s opening goal, giving his side an important opportunity to take control of the contest.

He also played a key role in the second goal, delivering an excellent ball for Harry Owen, who subsequently turned provider for Owolabi to complete his brace.

While the statistics may not show a direct goal contribution for Mendes, his influence was clear. He created problems for Trefelin, helped Flint find openings and demonstrated the value of players who can make a difference without necessarily getting their names on the scoresheet.

Harry Owen leads by example with clean sheet and assist

Flint captain Owen delivered an important all-round performance, helping his side keep a clean sheet while also providing an assist as the visitors wrapped up the victory.

The defender had a responsibility to ensure Flint were ready for the challenge posed by Trefelin, and he helped his side rise to the occasion.

Owen is no stranger to getting on the scoresheet himself in his career, but this time he showed his creative side to help put the game beyond doubt.

His contribution to the second goal was particularly telling. Owen provided the ball that allowed Owolabi to find the net for the second time, completing a move that gave Flint breathing space and helped secure the result.

For a captain, performances like this are about more than individual statistics. Keeping the opposition at bay while contributing at the other end reflects the kind of leadership Flint will need as they look to maintain their recent progress.

With three wins from their last four league games under Holmes, Owen’s influence at the back and his ability to contribute going forward will be valuable assets for the side.

Flint Town United continue to build momentum under Danny Holmes

The performances of Owolabi, Mendes and Owen highlighted the different qualities Flint have at their disposal as they continue to find their feet under Holmes.

Owolabi supplied the goals, Mendes provided creativity and attacking intent, while Owen combined defensive responsibility with a decisive contribution in the final third.

Three wins in four league games represent an encouraging return for Holmes, with Owolabi’s improving goalscoring form offering another positive sign for the Flint boss.

If Flint can continue to get contributions from across the pitch while maintaining their defensive solidity, there will be plenty of reason for optimism as their campaign progresses.
