Youth Match Review: Dinas Powys Wolves 7-0 Maesteg Park

Dinas Powys Wolves put in an impressive performance of attacking football in the first round of the South Wales U14s cup against Maesteg Park.

Despite a number of games being called off due to cold conditions, the game was passed as playable to the elation of the young Wolves squad who were chomping at the bit to kick off their cup campaign.  

The game began and Wolves sought to attack quickly, with Kyle Booker opening the scoring for before Bayley Harewood made it 2 nil.

Rian Thomas read his lines well and a training pitch move saw him add number three. At the break the Wolves looked in control, but were wary of a capable Maesteg side who could rely on some cup magic to get back into the game. 

The home side came out of the blocks with an intensity that is getting a familiar sight now and further goals from Booker and Harewood sent Wolves 5-0 up. The game was not just a matter of attacking, with Frost and Lewis managing the home defence well whilst Quest and Williams stopped any threat wide showing good strength and pace.

In the middle, Joe Doughty and Zac Fifield won the ball and played it simple with exemplary work rate through out .

The hard working Thomas was replaced with Saunders who kept the visitors deep, with Hewitson’s movement helping Wolves’ flow through the game with attractive play. Jacob Pereira replaced the impressive Doughty which allowed Fifield the opportunity to push on and make it 6-0 with a fine goal.

Booker added the 7th to complete his hat trick. Dylan Morris was called on late in the game and stood strong to earn his clean sheet.

The game was witnessed by a large crowd who ensured a good atmosphere accompanied Wolves’ victory which presented the Vale League in good light. Whilst Maesteg will look to come back stronger from the result, Wolves await their opponents in round two.
